Adding Fish to Established System

Recommended Posts

I've had two clownfish in my 20G long for the last year. These two clowns were the only fish in the tank. Sadly, this morning I woke up to one of them on the floor. I feel horrible and don't want this to happen again. I will be adding a mesh top before any more fish are introduced the system.

I want to replace the fish with another clown or two, but I'm nervous about how the already established clownfish will react to the new addition(s). Is it wise to add more clownfish to the tank or should I look at other fish?

Thanks in advance!

You can add a small juvenile of the same species.  It should be notably smaller than the existing fish.  It doesn't matter whether the one that jumped was the male or female; this mature fish will be the female and the juvenile will become the male.

But don't add more than one clownfish.  If you want a third fish, you can get another nano appropriate fish for this tank.
