dwdenny
Welcome. Best advice is be patient and that is hard to do. What rock and sand are you using for cycling (dry or live rock)? Quote Link to comment
BJohnson
I went to my local store and am running about 22? pounds of live rock with a 20 lb bag of aragonite live rock for substrate with some pre cleaned and tank ready sand. was a bit pricy but the rocks are various colors, purple white and brown. Had the local shop treat me like a kindergartener for an hour and so far so good! Quote Link to comment
dwdenny
Good way to start. Just keep on eye on ammonia and nitrates they both will possibly spike but it doesn't sound like you would have much die off from the rocks unless it was out of water for over a day or so. Your tank might never really cycle like others including mine that used dry rock. I used a bottle bacteria since I used dry rock and crushed coral substrate. I will tell you get some good test kits API work but are notorious for false readings. I use salifert test kits for Nitrate, Calcium, and Magnesium. Picking up a phosphate test kits soon as well. Hanna checkers work well for phosphates as well. Quote Link to comment
