Did I damage my new snail?

I just brought home my first turbo snail today. When I finished acclimating it and tried to move it into my tank it became really stubborn and refused to let go of the container from the store. I was being as gentle as I could and finally got a finger under him to help pop him off but a couple times during this process I honestly thought I was about to rip his shell off. Every time I pulled on his shell after that it felt like it was not really attached to the snail very well anymore. Did I accidentally do some serious damage to it? I got him into my tank and he's already moving around but I am still kinda worried.
