Sebas
Hello, I just set up my first 6G reef tank. I will be keeping a small journal over here to show the progression. The tank is cycling for 3 weeks now. I'm keeping it simple, so for equipment i'm only using: - Tank: Fluval edge 6G - Heater: Eheim 50w - Powerhead: Hydor Koralia 1600 - Light: Kessil a160we tuna blue For filtration i'm only using: - Dry Rock (I used seachem stability to get the tank started) - Live sand No external filtration or skimmer, just frequent waterchanges. 50% every two weeks with water from my lfs. For stocking i'm planning on doing a lps dominated reef, with a fire shrimp. Greetings, Sebastiaan 1 Quote Link to comment

jarviz
hydor 1600 in a 6gal? that's about 400gph... isn't that completely overkill? My 10gal tank with the 240 is already pushing the fish and corals pretty hard. i'm trying to downsize my pump lol. Quote Link to comment

There is a dessant amount off flow in the tank, but the sand doesn't even move that much. I went a little bigger, because it's the only filtration in the tank. I can always downsize if necessary. I wouldn't expect the sand to move at all, especially since it looks like you have some larger grain sand. But i think 400gph would decimate your corals in that tank... unless you only plan on doing sps or high flow corals? wait.. you don't have any mechanical filtration? Quote Link to comment

Sebas
The flow diffuses after hitting the front window. The tank is now running 4-5 weeks. I added one hermit crab and an euphyllia a few days ago. The Torch isn't blown over from too much flow, as you can see. Algae are nowhere to be seen. I spot feed the hermit crab some Nori, every 3-4 days. I added the hermit to further initiate the bacterial culture. Indeed, I only use biological filtration. No Hob, no skimmer,... Besides a fire shrimp, no livestock is going to be added. CoralsOnly. I think the tank would be to small for any fish. Quote Link to comment
Sebas
Hi, here is my 10 week running update. Setup: No changes in equipment Filtration: No changes, only rock and sand Live stock: 1 Euphyllia Torch purple 11 Zoa utter chaos 4 Zoa scrambled eggs 1 Cleaner shrimp 1 Hermit crab I've had a small diatom outbreak, but The hermits crab + waterchanges every other week, did the job to keep it under controle. In the near future i want to expant the zoa garden. All tips are welcome. 1 Quote Link to comment

I have a firefish and clown in my 10gal, i can't get my nitrates above 0 with a little bit of macro in there. They seem to get along fine. I would think a single firefish would probably be ok in your tank if you are interested in getting a fish. Quote Link to comment
