Reef Reece
Hi all, new to the forum and have finally joined after getting so much great advice from you all. Last visit to my LFS I picked up a few new Zoa frags and the guy in there gave me a rock with encrusting Montipora on it, which was really nice of him, but I did notice that it also has something else alongside it, possible Xenia ? Wondering if anyone can shed some light on this for me. Quote Link to comment
ajmckay
That's GSP, or green star polyps. Staple coral IMO. It grows a mat and does so quickly. It's really cool when you have a whole rock covered in it. Here's a photo I took of a rock covered in GSP https://www.nano-reef.com/competition/entry/483-lushhhhhhhhh/ Quote Link to comment
Reef Reece
Oh fantastic ! I was looking at getting a GSP for the sandbed, so it will be nice to mature my own. Any techniques on removing it from this rock to put it on its own, already looks like the Monti is on the verge of taking over ! Quote Link to comment
ajmckay
Yeah that frag would probably cost like $10 at the typical LFS. You can just scrape it off. Use like a credit card or something to gently remove the mat. Once it's off the rock superglue small pieces to some frag discs and place them throughout the area you want to cover.
