Xj reefing
My torch that I have had for a Month or two has suddenly turned half white (the polyp coulour still same just not the tentacles) why is this? Quote Link to comment
Tired
That's strange. Has anything changed? Is anything in range that can sting it? I see what looks like a blurry hammer coral in the bottom right. Quote Link to comment
Xj reefing
Here is a better whole tank pic for reference on where everything is at 1 1 Quote Link to comment

Xj reefing
If you look at the original photo you will see the half white torch from then it has gotten better so idk what was wrong 1 Quote Link to comment
ajmckay
Sweet tank I LOVE the euphyllia garden. So the theory that stands out to me is a temporary jettison of zooxanthellae, the photosynthetic organisms which live inside the corals and where the concentration is high usually produces the brownish color we expect. I believe a coral can expel some of these organisms which could possibly cause a lightening of the tissue. 3 Quote Link to comment
travoose
I had this happen to one of my Candy Cane heads once. Literally turned ghost white for a little more than a week, thought I was going to slowly lose the entire colony, then it bounced back and it is now as if nothing happened. 1 Quote Link to comment
Xj reefing
I don’t think this torch had any damage done but it was recently moved so that was probably the cause. Today it looks fine Quote Link to comment

Today it looks fine Corals adapt pretty specifically to the lighting and flow conditions they're in, so a move can actually lead to internal stress or damage from the change. It's also easy to accidentally damage a coral during a move and not even know it. On 1/13/2021 at 4:20 PM, Xj reefing said: Today it looks fine Excellent! Quote Link to comment
Xj reefing
Yeah I think it just got damaged but healed up very quickly. On of my trackies has had corals fall on it 3 times and recovered in a couple of days. Quote Link to comment
Xj reefing
It is now looking even more white So anymore ideas on how to fix it would be good Quote Link to comment
ajmckay
Same coral? Got a better pic? Maybe from another angle? Quote Link to comment
Xj reefing
I will try and get a better pic Tomorrow and yes same coral. Last night I move it out from the shadow of my hammer coral so it can get more light Quote Link to comment
