m@tt
The tank was packed nicely: The stand is pretty nice, easy to setup although they should have shipped it assembled since it's not too much bigger than the current packaging. The Nero 3 has been ok so far, there are some strange noises from it, so I'll need to watch out for that. But the controller being so small is a nice feature. Here's a shot of the top down: I also have a planted tank running next to it: 6 1 Quote Link to comment
tidepooldreamer
Looks great so far! I have the same tank - curious about how you're running your heater? I wasn't sure the Finnexes would fit well in the back chambers. Quote Link to comment
ReefCap
How do you like the mighty jet? I’m thinking of upgrading the stock return on my IM14 to it. Quote Link to comment

I wasn't sure the Finnexes would fit well in the back chambers. It's an older HMO series 150w titanium heater but the temperature swing is only .3 degrees and it fits nicely in the middle chamber. I bought a new Eheim Jager(50w) which fit fine but the temperature swing was terrible and I prefer to have the heater manage the temperature with a relay as a backup. The jager is now the salt mixing heater. 6 hours ago, ReefCap said: How do you like the mighty jet? I’m thinking of upgrading the stock return on my IM14 to it. No complaints so far. You can't hear any noise from it and the feed mode is handy but it's definitely doesn't feel like the best made pump. The controller box is disappointing, since it weighs nothing and the buttons feel cheap. When it eventually dies, I will probably get another one to replace it. 2 Quote Link to comment

m@tt
There's been some progress. I've never liked the Kessil gooseneck so I made the mistake of looking at the other options and ended up getting a Kessil A360x. It's completely overkill for this tank but I wanted the different channels and other features. I currently have the light 10 inches off the water with a max of 50% and the par is roughly 75 on the rock. Once the new corals have acclimated, I'll change this but so far the light has been great. The only issue I've had so far with this tank has been the HW reefer salt. The calcium was 500 and magnesium was 1800 on a newly mixed bucket of saltwater. Those numbers aren't terrible but not where I wanted it so I switched to the red sea blue bucket. I was also questioning my testing methods and test kits but the red sea tested fine and I bought multiple brands of test kits to cross check. I'll probably stick with red sea and I'm able to buy that locally so I can easily get more. I plan to have almost all zoas in this tank and I've already started a small collection. I still need to glue them to the rocks though, so until then here's one. 1 Quote Link to comment
m@tt
This thread has been neglected, but I've been working on an upgrade which is a red sea 200xl. The IM14 is still running for now, but I'll be moving everything over pretty soon. The 200xl has been running for a couple months but I tried to take a shortcut and add fish without quarantining them. The fish are now in the QT and should be ready to add back in about a month. Here's what the tank looks like now, the exiting rock from the IM14 will be moved over when I take that down. I've picked up a nice collection of torches/mushrooms/zoas from various sites. This jawbreaker has now dropped 4 babies and is working on another. This rainbow incinerator started from a single polyp and is taking over. The GMK is a massive polyp(and unlike hallucinations, these look good under any light). I also picked up a pair of biota captive bred mandarins. They are still in the IM14 but I've also been growing pods using poseidon reef's setup and it has been working great. 1 Quote Link to comment
