RoyalGramma001
Hi everyone, I have a 20 gallon tank that has a bit of a nitrate problem that I'm working on and I got some lps corals. What is the best macroalgae for a hang on back refugium? Also I was thinking of getting the finnex hang on back refugium is it any good? Quote Link to comment
Tired
Chaeto is the standard, since it's a good place for pods to live and generally easy to grow. Make sure you have a good enough light to keep it alive and growing. Quote Link to comment
RoyalGramma001
Yeah the finnex comes with a light Quote Link to comment
Tired
Can't speak to how good it is. Look at online reviews for it, see if anyone on this forum has one and has talked about how it works. If it's a device that circulates the tank water through it, has a bright enough light to grow chaeto, and won't fall off, leak, or otherwise physically fail, it should be fine. Quote Link to comment

I think it's just a refugium filter to filter the water. It has 5 stars so I assume it's good. Yes it does circulate water through it Quote Link to comment
Tired
What do you mean by refugium filter? A refugium is a chamber that's separate from the rest of the aquarium, to allow algae and microfauna to grow safely, while circulating the aquarium water through it. A refuge for the algae and microfauna, essentially. They don't usually have any filtering ability, aside from something occasionally snagging in the algae. Quote Link to comment
