I WCed the tank today. Soaked up the greasy surface layer full of algae and dirt using paper towels:

Looking clean after the mop up:

Also thoroughly cleaned out the HOB & wavemaker too:

The tank was definitely full of unhappy corals due to the algae film. 😔

My green leptastrea had mild BJD after brushing up against my orange leptastrea and I have lost a chunk of it:

I also had to frag my pavona and it looks terrible:

Definitely depressing. Most coral colors are off. It will take a while for them to return to full color. 😕

But, despite all the setbacks - some pieces perked up after the WC. Pics incoming later! 😊👍

I tried something different this time. Instead of adjusting the brightness etc directly in my phone's Pro Mode, I touched up the pics using Adobe Lightroom (android, non-premium version), which had quite good results. 😊

Indeed! And thank you. Been having a lot of trouble trying to get clear shots of the corals lately. 😕

Thats a lot of cloudiness on the top of the tank, good job with the cleaning up though.

Any ideas whats causing the films on the water surface?

I think it was due to accumulated dirt from the HOB, which caused a buildup of nutrients. I'm not entirely sure - but I'll observe the tank and see if the thorough clean up today made any difference. (Hopefully it did)

Tank is okay - some polyps are still sulky, but for the most part, they're fine. Also, Geralt ate another snail. 🤦‍♀️

Some of the zoas are still closed up - probably due to lack of nitrates. Really need to add a fish to this to balance things out a little. 😅

I focused on the Zoa Ledge today. Am quite pleased to watch the coralline slowly take over the ledge once more. After the snails eradicated the pest algae, there were a lot of bare white patches on the rocks, including the Zoa Ledge. 😕

Most of the original pink & purple coralline was gone too. But now I'm seeing some of it return in bits here and there - hopefully the base of the ledge will be colorful again in weeks to come. 👍

I'm mostly happy that *most of the polyps are fully open again. 🥰

Will have to trim back the cloves a little. They're obscuring the Butt Munchers. 🤔

Did a couple of things today - trimmed the main forest fire digi branch and re-glued it back to the rocks. Also decided to risk fragging the pavona again, but I'm unsure if it'll ever grow. If it does, I intend to gift it to my LFS:

20220128_181505.thumb.jpg.3b6aba544b45e96da796677f5c8bd24c.jpg

I also trimmed the base rock of the duncan because it was too awkwardly shaped and placement on the sandbed was difficult. The duncan is still sulky, but hopefully it'll open back up fully after a few days.

After the trimming, I moved the duncan forward and moved the second Zoa Ledge to the back, so that it complements the original Zoa Ledge. From a frontal view it doesn't look too impressive:

But from a topview, it looks like it's simply another part of the original ledge: 😊

Hoping to collect more Zoa & Paly morphs in the future. Especially the underappreciated (yet pretty!) ones. 🥰

I'll try to get better pics when the polyps are all fully open, and the duncan stops sulking.

I'm tentatively planning to WC the tank tomorrow. Already scraped the glass, did some minor maintenance, prepped all the equipment & washed the lids. 👍
