How the rainbow yuma looked like exactly 2 years ago - in my 60G:

The colors have certainly changed a lot! Not sure if it'll regain them in my nano, but I guess I'll have to wait and see. 🤷‍♀️

Rainbow meets rainbow:

Some of the zoas and palys on the ledge look a bit irritated today. 😕

But (!) I spotted something intriguing between my red hornets & rastas - a single Captain America paly, still growing out: 😮

Was quite shocked because this morph vanished months ago in my tank, and I presumed it had melted away. Now, out of the blue, it is returning and growing back. So that's one extra paly type to look forward to. 🥰

Also, puffy acans:

Rotated the digi frag plug away from the cyphastrea. There's a small bald patch at the point of contact between both corals. The digi is resilient, so hopefully it'll recover and regrow in the upcoming weeks. 🤔

The recent duncan head has doubled in size:

Its latest tiny compatriot is still a tiny bulge and developing. 😊

All pics were taken under heavy whites this time, so the coral colors are duller and more bland than usual. Sorry! 🤐

Your tank amazes me every time you post pics.  You have so many colors and kinds of coral in there and they are so full and happy.  I add stuff to my tank and it looks like a jumbled mess.  Do you take them off of the plugs and put on rock.  I am mainly interested in the mushrooms and zoas.  Also do you mind listing what you feed and dose in this tank?  I am going to go back and read the whole thread, but it may take a few days.  I hope things are going better with your 60 gallon tank.  I have not checked that thread out in a day or two.

Yeah, I usually take them off the plugs, but if the coral is encrusted to the plug, I'll leave it alone. Sometimes I trim off the edges of the plug (especially zoas and palys) so that it won't take up too much space.

I feed a variety of things - reef roids, phyto, zooplankton, brine, copepods, rotifers, brine, mysis, chopped shrimp (for the larger LPS) etc. Usually I feed these once a week, or in the case of the chopped shrimp, twice a month. With the exception of the reef roids, all the other tiny food are in liquid form and *mostly refrigerated or frozen.

I do try to seed the tank with live copepods and/or rotifers once a month. 👍

I dose kH, Calcium & magnesium buffers daily, and Vit. C once a week. Everything is done manually by hand. Thinking of saving up to buy a proper doser in the future. 🤔

The 60G isn't doing great. Only have one fish left in QT. 😔

Thank you for the feeding details.  All of my zoas seem pretty small and have faded out to a brown or ugly orange or green.  I want to get them the supplements they need to be successful.  And show the vibrant colors that they have.

It will take time. I noticed one critical thing with this particular tank - I stopped chasing numbers and started aiming for stability/balance. Each tank is different and because each of us fills our tanks with different livestock options (especially corals), the nutrient depletion is different. WCs can replenish nutrients, but keeping the kH, Calcium & Magnesium in balance with each other was my main focus/goal in this system. The consumption of kH and Ca has gone up after the addition of many different corals (especially SPS), and the growth of the corals themselves. But I try to keep them balanced out by shooting for a range which this tank seems to be most comfortable with.

Also, if you're planning on dosing for the first time - start out super-small and slowly work your way up, and test your levels as you do so. It's safer to underdose than overdose - usually dosing isn't really needed since WCs will replenish everything. (Unless the system is stocked with SPS, which tends to deplete Alk. & Ca. like crazy)

Forgot to add earlier: Zoas need some phosphates and nitrates to color up. I usually try to keep my PO4 at 0.25ppm and Nitrates between 2ppm to 5ppm. Hope this helps!

Well, I just discovered the turban snail kicked the bucket - and by the looks of it, it's been a few days. No flesh left, just an empty upturned shell hidden way back in the nook behind the blue hairy shroom.

That'd explain why I had slightly more cyano than usual recently. All those nutrients and extra meat - which I'm sure was a yummy snack for both shrimp.

Snail issue aside, I've already prepared everything for an upcoming WC - which is tentatively set for tomorrow (or the day after, if I'm too tired). I'll slowly work on removing the remaining nuclear death polyps around the red hornets as well. Otherwise, it should be a fairly standard WC, filter media replacement, & routine maintenance.

Just turned the lights on. Tank is still filthy and most of the corals are still shrunken and/or stretching a little, but here are some upcoming baby shrooms!

For some reason, I still feel drained although I have recovered from my headache overnight. I did manage to clean the filter (light clean) and swap out both the floss and carbon for new ones. 👍

All the equipment for the impending WC is already prepped and currently stored in my bathroom - but hopefully with more rest in an hour or two, I can (*might) WC this evening.

My blue hairy shroom has once again attached itself to the filter intake, and once again, had to be peeled off to clean the filter, which upset the coral quite a bit. 😕

It's shrunken (again!), but I'm guessing I have to find a way of making sure it stops attaching itself to a plastic tube. I'm tentatively thinking of wedging a tiny, cylindrical (more or less) shaped LR between the shroom and filter intake. That way it'll attach itself to the rock, and not get injured everytime I have to clean the filter. Not sure if it'll work, but I guess it's worth a shot. 🤷‍♀️

Just need to find a tiny LR piece in the tank - I think I threw some pieces at the back corner of the shroom garden, so I'll need to check there. 🤔

WC finally done! Equipment has been cleaned, and tank's lights are out for the night. Thinking of picking up a new pair of turban snails ~2 weeks from now to assist in the algae clean up. 👍

Wish we could get money cowries again here - those guys were extremely good at munching on algae.
