The shrimps might not move around much, but I still do find them fascinating. 1 Quote Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
I got the date wrong! According to my FB memory-journal & this NR journal, my nano turns 1 today on 16/11/2020! 🤦♀️ Exactly a year ago on 16/11/2020: 1st Birthday!!! : Hoping for many more years to come. 🥰 7 1 Quote Link to comment

Snow_Phoenix
I noticed something. When I take pics of my red lobo from the front, the color is deeper and darker. But if I take a pic from above, it is lighter and looks paler. 🤔 I think it's a lighting issue. Even though my ISO in my phone settings is the same, I'm taking pics from different angles from my LEDs. In reality, my lobo isn't as super dark as the pics taken from the front, but neither is it pale-looking when taken from above. It seems to be a shade of red caught between the two. Difficult to explain in words. 🤷♀️ Duncan: 3 Quote Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
Zoa-turned-Paly Tower: 😅 Yumas: Coral mix: I think the John Deere leptastrea is eventually going to grow over the Meteor Shower cyphastrea. 👀 2 Quote Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
There is no *perfection in reefing. Here are some downsides to the nano, which is a normal part of the tank's growth & growing maturity. 👍 Cyano patches on the sandbed: Vermetid snails - this seems to be a persistent issue with both of my tanks. Every week, I end up crushing a few: Fuzzy brown hair algae: Will tackle this with the addition of more CUC like snails, because it is too tough to pull out by hand (I tried). I *might dip the algae-ridden part of the hairy shroom rock in peroxide, then scrub it off as well. 👍 4 Quote Link to comment
aclman88
Happy birthday! Looks amazing as usual and props for taking pics of the minor cyano and algae patches. I think it's important, especially for newbies, to see that ecen these picture perfect tanks sometimes have "blemishes." This journal is model of how a tank journal should be! Keep it up! 1 1 Quote Link to comment

Thank you so much for your kind words. And I agree that it is important to document both the good & bad aspects of a tank's progress. Every reefing journey is different, but algae & pests are a common part of it. 👍 3 Quote Link to comment

Snow_Phoenix
Some quick throwback pics, taken exactly a year ago from today. 😊 The Zoa Garden: The Zoa Ledge: Duncan (one large head & one tiny head) : Coralline Ledge, before the leptastrea grew over everything, including the Sunflower zoas (was a bit crushed when I lost those) and the red finger leather was stubby: Remember the very large orange/green yuma I currently have in the nano? This was how small it used to be: My rainbow bali brain at 1/4th of its current size: A *lot of pieces have increased in size and vividness of color over the past year. In some cases, some frags have actually developed *more shades of color while others have grown into mini colonies. I didn't realize how stark the changes were until I viewed the present day pics and made a comparison. Although my Zoa Garden has lost most of its morphs due to Zoa Pox several times (as well as simply melting away 🤷♀️ ), the Zoa Ledge looks very different now: And the coralline algae definitely added some much needed background color. 😊 I'm still keeping up with daily manual dosing of kH, Mg & Ca. Roughly 1.5ml of each everyday. And I manually top off with dechlorinated FW every 3 days or so. 👍 2 Quote Link to comment

DevilDuck
This has to be one of my favorite tanks here! I love the look of palys, but I'm afraid they will overtake a lot of my rock. How do you control the spread of your palys? 2 Quote Link to comment

I have tricolor deaths growing out on the Zoa Ledge as well, so that can be a bit tricky to remove. Usually I do a WC and run a lot of carbon after paly-pruning. 👍 Quote Link to comment

Snow_Phoenix
Throwback to when I had a tribal blenny in my old nano in 2017. I picked it up from the store and it came from another reefer's tank. Check out those fangs! 1 Quote Link to comment
