Snow_Phoenix
Hunter just died. I'm not sure why. I put a lot of effort into training him, and he was improving & gaining weight. This morning, I checked on him & he was fine. Then in the afternoon, he started sliming up for no particular reason & was breathing sluggishly. All my parameters are within range - all my other fish, corals & inverts are fine. Such a frustrating & upsetting moment for me. 😭 7 Quote Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
Just updated my coral list in the first page - I used to have 106 morphs/varieties, but now I'm back down to 89 morphs/varieties. 😞 I didn't realize I lost that *many types of corals in my tank when I fell sick and was forced to hold back on WCing the tank for weeks. Most of the morphs lost were various zoa & paly types. I'll try to slowly rebuild my collection again, but this will take a while. Hopefully the lockdown will ease up in a month or two so that I can return to my primary LFS and pick up the frags I've selected. I'll try to pick up a new orange setosa as well, and perhaps a new frag of LA Lakers & UC Palys if they're available. Will also try to take a better monthly FTS shot of the tank later too. Snow_Phoenix
Monthly FTS on 25/05/2021: Total coral count post updated - missed out on taking 4 more zoa morphs into stock. So total coral count is 93 different morphs/varieties/types. More to come. 👍 7 Quote Link to comment
Critteraholic
😢 So sorry to hear about Hunter. Do you think it might be possible he irritated some coral he shouldn't have? It's extra sad to lose a critter without knowing why. 1 Quote Link to comment

Do you think it might be possible he irritated some coral he shouldn't have? It's extra sad to lose a critter without knowing why. I don't know. I have a variety of corals and a small mini carpet nem in the tank. He has been very active - scoping out every area out of curiosity. Sometimes he chases his reflection along the glass after a full meal too. I wonder if he had tried to jump and collided against my lid. I lost a wrasse before in my 60G when it collided (for no reason) against my glass. The impact killed it instantly, and I saw it happen. Ultimately, I still am unsure what the true cause of death is. My other three fish - including the circus barred goby, are fine, thankfully. So hard to lose a fish when you've invested a lot of time & effort into keeping it. 😔 1 2 Quote Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
I woke up to this this morning, and I was devastated: Cried for a bit - thankfully, my mum was there for me. She was equally shocked as I was. I think I've finally figured out the cause, but I'd ask the forum to respectfully not ask me about this one, if possible. 🌺 I strained my back recently, but I'll try to do a major WC today evening if I can. 4 Quote Link to comment

Snow_Phoenix
Still in pain, so couldn't do a WC. Bottom of the sandbed & rocks has some cyano patches. Sapphire (damsel) & Prowler (goby) are okay for now. Just need the system to hang on until I'm strong enough to WC it. Literally cannot lift a bucket of water right now, and it sucks. Also, my country is going into a full lockdown from June 1st onwards - things have hit a critical point and our healthcare system is on the verge of breakdown. Too many cases (we're estimating it'll hit 10K+ daily in a few days time), too many deaths (many DOA cases of previously healthy people around my age - most of these used to be asymptomatic carriers of the virus), too slow delivery of vaccines. Simply put, we're dying over here. Tomorrow my parents are going to attempt to grab as many essentials to stock up and last out 2+ weeks of being at home (only dad has to go to work). My govt. is quite desperate - they just updated a note in our online healthcare app, pleading for volunteers who hold any degree from the medical field (Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Biomedicine) to help out. I'm from the medical field - if I was healthy enough, I'd drop everything & help. But my body & mind is breaking and I still need more time to heal. The volunteers need to be healthy, both physically & mentally. I can't do it right now, so I have to sit back & watch. 😢 Hope they allow medical, dentistry, nursing & biomedical students to help as well to assist the doctors on the field. We lost quite a fair few doctors, nurses & other medical staff due to Covid already. Am quite worried for my dad too - he's actually now in the high-risk category due to age factor. And the amount of PPE available is quite limited. I'm just going to sit tight at home and not step out - except to the side porch and small patch of land outside the house to help tend to my outdoor tanks & the garden. Did a quick check on animal supplies - especially supplies needed to sustain my tanks. So far it's all good and I have excess of everything. I still need to pick up some macro for the fuge for my 60G, but I'll wait until the wave slows down. Too risky to go too far from home, just to grab a bunch of green things. Best wishes to the rest of you, NR. Please keep my country in your thoughts in the upcoming days/weeks. 🌺 2 1 Quote Link to comment
Critteraholic
Scary numbers for a country your size. I wish you and your family all the best. 1 Quote Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
I did an 8G WC today. Took some pics: I shifted one of the smaller rocks covered in cactus caulerpa & clove polyps to the right of the tank to free up some space on the left. I saw a platinum percula at the LFS day before yesterday (managed to get to the store because they temporarily removed the road blocks near my home). It was small, adorable...and very expensive. 🥺 So I just picked up some macro for my 60G and a few FW fish for my discus tank instead. 3 Quote Link to comment

debbeach13
Looks great. Too bad about the little clown fish being so expensive. Prices are all over the place lately. I hope you are feeling better. 2 Quote Link to comment

The cyano keeps coming back on the sandbed after a few days though. It's relegated to one patch, near the metallic GSP (and the rocks surrounding it) for some reason. I keep using a baster to get rid of it, but I gave up after a while and just let it be. Wish I could pick up my zoa frags from my primary LFS though. Maybe next month, when the lockdown restrictions eases. 1 Quote Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
Update #1. Still having cyano trouble. Otherwise, tank is doing okay. 👍 The ironman shroom is now completely back to normal & has made a full recovery. Its color is actually now stronger than the first day I brought it back from the store: Yuma: Blue hairy shroom: Other pile of random shrooms: 3 Quote Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
Update #2. Garf bonsai still growing, but slowly: Metallic green palys are actually a bit invasive and have taken over the entire Zoa Tower. My UCs & LA Lakers lost out to them. My orange bam bams are barely able to grow on the rock because it can't compete: Green acans & red finger leather: Rainbow brain: Duncan now has 5 heads: Harvey up close: 😊 3 Quote Link to comment
debbeach13
My Duncan melted away months ago. Can’t decide if I want to try again. Every thing is looking good in your tank. Are you going to trim back the green palys? 2 Quote Link to comment

Luckily things turned around in this tank and it started developing more heads. I think I'll leave the palys on their own. It's so far isolated on the tower rock only, and despite being overgrown, it does look pretty. 🤷♀️ Quote Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
Not exactly reef-related, but I set up a 10G paludarium for my vampire crabs today. 🦀 Thinking of picking up another pair of 🦀 next week, if they're still available at the store. This tank developed a crack at the left bottom corner recently, so I had to silicone it. Leak-test came through fine, but I still don't want to risk adding too much water to it, so I converted it as a paludarium. 😊👍 3 2 Quote Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
Sunny Ds. Tried to glue the last few polyps of my Tubbs Blue to the Zoa Ledge, but it might end up melting away. Figured it was worth a shot. 😔 3 Quote Link to comment
