I'm Batman
What kind of salt mix are you using and what Params does it mix to? Curious to see if there’s a certain mix people are leaning too this year. I’ve been using IO Reef Crystals for a few years. Seems pretty inconsistent even with stirring the bucket. I don’t test every time, usually just with a new bucket and when it’s 3/4 gone. Salinity - 35/ 1.026 PH - 8-8.2 dKh - 9-11 Calc - 440-500 Mag - 1200-1500 Quote Link to comment
Clown79
My favourite out of the ones I have used is Red Sea blue bucket. Love how quickly it mixes, never hardens, and very consistent. I rarely test mag but it was around 1290/1300 from what I remember. Alk 7.9 - 8.2, ca 435 I like you have found reef crystals very inconsistent and always very low mag 1 1 Quote Link to comment
seabass
I'm currently using Instant Ocean Reef Crystals simply because I was able to buy 160 gallon buckets for $37. I find it good enough for my needs; and (with the amount of salt that I'm currently going through) I don't like pouring lots of $$$ down the drain. When it first came out (and seemed to be perpetually on sale), I was using, and happy with, Live Aquaria Pro Reef Salt: Salinity: 35 ppt (1.026 sg) Calcium: 400-450 ppm Magnesium: 1,350-1,450 ppm Alkalinity: 8.0-9.5dKH If I could find it cheaper, I'd probably try Fritz Reef Pro Mix (which seems virtually identical to LA Pro Reef): Salinity: 35 ppt (1.0264 sg) Calcium: 400-450 ppm Magnesium: 1350-1450 ppm Alkalinity: 8.0 - 9.0 dKH 2 Quote Link to comment
farkwar
Jason Fox uses Instant Ocean(not even Reef Crystals) I used to use Kent Marine Salt Discontinued Use Reef Crystals now BRS has a bunch of videos on mixing and storage Anyway, I make up ziplok baggies with 775gm of salt. Dump it in a 5 gallon water jug of RODI Mix it up. Let it sit overnight. 1.026. And then use it I use to use a heater and pump. Now I just keep the house tank temperature I love the Milwaukee eRefractometer. And always keep a glass hydrometer in my tank for backup, eyeball check https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007Z4ITWU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_UvgNFbGJKJ8ZC 1 Quote Link to comment
