Tigahboy's Macroalgae Tanks

Decided to make this thread a general macroalgae tank thread instead of creating separate ones for each of my tanks.

Here's a few of the latest shots from my UNS 5N. Battled dinos with this tank for the past few weeks, but seem to have them under control now (but planning to add a UV sterilizer soon to finish them for good).

I really had zero love for this 5N initially (partly b/c I just grabbed macros from my other tanks and filled this up very quickly - no real challenge ya know) and when I got dinos I was like, f this tank. But I'm really starting to love how this one is filling in with macros so there's hope for this one yet.

Also, here's a sea monkey tank that I set-up for my son 8 months ago and the gracilaria hayi I initially put in there is still kicking (amazed by how hardy it is). This counts as a macroalgae tank right? 😉

I saw that on IG this morning- very cute and innovative. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone stock a sea monkey tank with anything frankly, so that’s like the Ritz Sea Monkey Tank.

Nice!

Turned the outlet into a switch for an overhead light?

You can't even see the careful rock placement.  Is there a turquoise background halfway up the back?  It looks like staring into the deep through the center gap.

I actually just put a cover over it (it's not a switch). There's an LED backlight behind the tank. I do miss seeing the rock scape.

Whoa!  Almost looks too full but it's still awesome.

Yeah, I think it is too full and basically I'm just trimming this thing thing 24/7. Part of me wants to restart this tank. Like keep the rock scape, but remove all macroalgae and start over.

That would only create more work for me! I think 3 tanks is my limit (though I’d prefer 2), so adding a 4th tank is probably not gonna happen. 😢

Look, ma! I'm in a magazine! Wrote an article about macroalgae tanks (and featured on the cover) for the latest issue of Reef Hobbyist Magazine!

Haven't updated this thread in awhile. Been hard to keep up with my gazillion forms of interweb engagement.

But here's a complete run-down.

UNS 5N is doing great! Up to 19 different species in here now.

Pairs well with my UNS 45A (my AIO contest tank which is updated separately in my contest thread here - though debating whether to stop updating in that thread and just update here)

Grow-out tank is completely packed and a hot mess. A few shots from that tank below.

Started a pico on an impulse after getting a free display fuge light from ReefBreeders. It's a UNS 5S. Yes, there's a tiger (on brand for me), but it's located behind the tank.

UNS 60S is in a bit of a transitional phase. I've been meaning to either do a re-scape or take it down altogether (after my giant dictyota bush basically floated away and I discovered it was like 80% hair algae inside of it), but haven't had the time, so it's in limbo and pictured below next to my new pico.

That's it! You're all caught up now! Be back in a couple months! LOL.

Love the tanks. They are looking great! At one point I had macros in all mine but somehow fell out of the habit. Looking at your tanks has realy made me want to get back to it. I Just got myself some pom pom. Im curently after some saw blade caulerpa but I cant seem to find any in the states. I used to grow it in my displays years ago and it looked quite nice.
