Tigahboy's Macroalgae Tanks

Update: Decided to make this thread a general macroalgae tank thread instead of creating new ones for my various macroalgae projects. I may start posting updates on my contest macroalgae tank in here as well once voting is done on that contest.

***

So I started a macroalge tank as my contest entry for the current 365 Day AIO Challenge (check it out here), and got totally sucked into the world of macroalgae.

Thought I'd create a build thread for my UNS 60S (1 of 3 macroalgae tanks I have right now). This tank was largely inspired by freshwater valley/snaking river scapes.

Latest FTS from last night. Started this tank on 7/15/20.

Latest addition - this grape caulerpa.

Red grape macroalgae, dictyota in the background, and purple ribbon gorg.

Valley of branching coralline algae.

Equipment Deets:

Aquarium: UNS 60 (10 gallons) - 23.6" x 14.2" x 7.1"

Light: Twinstar II 600S

Backlight: Smiful Water-Proof LED strip

Filter: XP Aqua Internal Filter Box running InTank Filter Floss

Heater: Cobalt Neo Therm 75W

My other two macroalgae set-ups - UNS 45A (my contest entry) and a UNS 16C (with basically just halimeda and a 1-rock scape).

Your aquascaping abilities never cease to blow my mind. You pulled all this off in a 10 gallon tank? Unbelievable

Thanks!  This 10g has very interesting dimensions. The footprint is around 24" x 14" so easier to create some depth in the scape.

Acropora has nothing on macroalgae tanks imo... they are my absolute favorite type of tank (even though I have none currently).

It would definitely be cool to see more around. Definitely underappreciated.

Received my Indo Pacific Sea Farms order from Hawaii yesterday! Got some mini seastars, hermits, pods, and macroalgae. But the true standout for me is this Sargassum. Beautiful!

Don't get dragon's breath, it grows like a weed and is impossible to tame XD

Love your scapes.

Thanks! True dragon’s breath wouldn’t look good in my tank anyway (not enough blue spectrum).

Branching coraline is underrated imo.  It can add such unique texture to a tank, and here it is the perfect contrast to the macro/gorgs.

I'd bet a lot of the general public couldn't tell you what kind of tank that is.

Yeah, don’t see a lot of folks with the branching coralline algae, but they sure do add something extra to this tank.

I NEED this coralline algae. I can never find it locally. Where did you procure it from or was it by chance?

Got mine from Gulf Coast Ecosystems (live-plants.com) as well.

Also @Cannedfish talked me into getting a certain fish for this tank. Got her yesterday, but haven’t been able to get a good photo yet. Stay tuned!

that guy is full of trouble.....don't listen to him 🤣

BTW, this is by far my most favorite tank of yours.  yes, even more so than your IM20 peninsula reef.

Thanks, man!  Although I love all my children, I actually do prefer this one over my last IM20 as well.

So I got a Pygmy Red Roster Waspfish for this tank, but she's a very good hider and I haven't been able to get a good photo yet. Here are a few other recent shots of this tank instead.

Looking forward to seeing your new fish once it gets brave enough to let you get a picture.

Not a great photo, but managed to get this one shot. Can you spot her??
