nanowavenic
Thank you for stopping by my aquarium journal! I have had this specific tank since 2012, and it has gone through many moves and transitions. In 2017, it finally started up in my new home but I haven't had as much time or money to dedicate to it until now. Since 2017 I have typically kept a paper journal by Aquarium Journals for my maintenance and equipment lists, but finally decided to go digital and keep photo records as well! I am always open to suggestions and constructive criticism as well... know better, do better! My ideal coral plan will be mostly LPS and figure out what to put near the top. I plan on having more heavy feeders in the long run- my favorite corals are Sun Corals, so getting the refugium in better shape will be helpful. At some point in 2018 or early 2019, I had a heater issue that did result in a loss of pretty much all corals. I am adding a pretty large online coral order this week as well as some new refugium critters, so there will be a lot of activity over the next week! I will also work on getting better photos.. it's probably one of the reasons i haven't really kept up with photo journaling to begin with! FTS 4/24/2022 1 Quote Link to comment
nanowavenic
Added some Chaeto and Pods from AlgaeBarn to the back middle refugium chamber. Quote Link to comment
nanowavenic
I got in two online coral orders for my birthday present :3 this first one is from Salt Critters. I acclimated them as per their instructions, did a coral dip and have them acclimating To the light on the sand Bed. -two types of turbanaria, an tank raised Pavona, a 3-polyped Acan lord and a 2-polyped Duncan. The second order is from Aquarium Depot. -A yellow sun colony (supposedly what they call a Medium), a black sun colony, 3-polyps of Blastomussa merletti, and a tank raised red gorgonian. The black sun colony they sent looks great, I’ve already seen a little bit of polyp extension from it. The yellow sun definitely needs some TLC. Sun corals have always been my favorite corals and I’ve kept them with a lot of success in the past, so my plan for now is to work on target feeding them on the sand bed until they open up consistently, and then I’ll move them into the little cave areas. 2 Quote Link to comment

I snagged him from my LFS last fall and he’s doing pretty well. A slow grower so far. The first picture is just a snap shot with no white balance adjustment, the second is balanced. Still neon in any light to the naked eye! 1 Quote Link to comment
nanowavenic
Working on babying the sun corals. The black sun coral is looking really great and has already had some polyp extension. The yellow one is still looking unhappy... the third polyp on it looks like it started having tissue recession before being sent to me so I’m not sure if that one will make it.. so I would say for being advertised as a 3-4 polyp frag, it’s a little disappointing. It’s so hard to buy online though. Placement for the new corals have started... now it’s just time for things to grow! I’ll be making a trip to my LFS this weekend to hopefully pick up a six line wrasse. I spotted some flatworms along the sand bed at night... 😫 Quote Link to comment
nanowavenic
I’ve been trying two small feedings a day for the sun coral. One around midday and one a couple hours after the lights go out. The black sun coral is a champ and has been coming out for the midday feedings.. the yellow still needs a lot of TLC. Right now I’ve been using the water bottle top method to feed. nanowavenic
The black Sun Coral is doing very well and now comes out during the day on its own! The yellow sun coral did do very poorly- there is still one polyp on it that has a fighting chance, but I have been back and forth with the shipper and they agreed it was not a healthy frag and are reimbursing me for that one. I will do what I can to nurse the one I have back to health, but will probably pick up another colony or possibly a dendro at some point. Quote Link to comment
