Jill Forrest
Hello, I just bought this new mantis shrimp and I am struggling to sex and ID it. The store had no idea, it was accidentally sent to them and they didn’t know it’s species or anything. I would also love any and all tips about how to set up the tank properly. This is the set up from the store, I am going to fix it and add things like sand when the store gets a new shipment this weekend. They were telling me that I can add some fish as long as I keep him fed. Is that true? Thank y’all so much for the help! it’s eating a crab in this picture. https://share.icloud.com/photos/0zlsyktAYjTaD6WL4ovW6hlLA Quote Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
Appears to be some sort of spearer. 🤔 Quote Link to comment
NoOneLikesADryTang
I’d go through this, and see if you can find it... This is the most comprehensive list around. https://ucmp.berkeley.edu/arthropoda/crustacea/malacostraca/eumalacostraca/royslist/index.html I wouldn’t put any fish with it, unless you want them to become snacks. I’ve got a Gonodactylaceus ternatensis (yours isn’t this), and it’s a smasher, but has killed/eaten fish. It’s just what they do, being an apex predator. They do like hiding places, and a dark place to make their dens, to molt. Quote Link to comment
NoOneLikesADryTang
Ok, I did a little looking (I can’t help it - I’m a sucker for mantises!), and I think it’s a Squilla Rugosa. Quote Link to comment
Jill Forrest
I’ve looked at that list but none of them looked like mine. I was kind of thinking it was a squilla empusa but idk Quote Link to comment
