TerraIncognita
This tank is dedicated to Jake Adam's from ReefBuilders and WWC. (He'll probably never know) 😄 see: I started it with my Girlfriend when I saw a post on OfferUp for $120 for a AIO 10G AquaJapan, had a 90GPH Return Pump, and a Zetlight (It's par values were enough for my tastes) I'll keep at the top of this thread. TerraIncognita
08/05/2020 - I broke down and I’ve fed them twice already 😭they just looked so cute. but nothing today. And then tomorrow I will feed before I head out for a 3 day trip. They seem to have established their opposite sides of the tank..... I hope once I add some corals and the CUC I can get them to bond :-(. (I know I said I would FULL STOCK first day. but I’m actually too chicken shit lol.) If they dont bond I guess I’ll just have to go get another 10G 😂😂 No fin stress on either so no worries for now. They seem to have their spaces. Nothing else done to the tank except hitting the rocks daily with a turkey baster. Everyday 2 times a day, continually finding white masses and clouds rising over and over in the same spots. the fish react to the clouds as if it’s feeding time and then nip at the particles in the water. It must mean that detritus is continually somehow being attached or leaching from these rocks. I’m going to continue doing this daily until nominal amount of excrement. 1 Quote Link to comment
TerraIncognita
8/10/2020 - came back from birthday trip to mexico to algae growth. A lot more than I wanted.... for sure... But happy about it, as I take it as a sign of this tank being able to sustain life. Added first CUC 4 snails 2 crabs started making quick work of it, so I think it'll be okay. Also I cheated, I moved a small rock from the main tank into this one. Has my Gonastrea on it as well as some good coraline. Fed the fish this morning as well just a bit. Photos later. This light is super blue for some reason on the camera.... darn... i'll try to fix it later. CUC After just 5 minutes making short work oft he algae. the rock that is blue, has no more, the rock that is orange blue has it lol. 2 Quote Link to comment
TerraIncognita
08/12/2020: Update missed what I did yesterday, but basically ended up with glued down frags/coral in this tank. (b'.')b Anyway today I did do a 10% water change after I spot dosed some hydrogen peroxide on this one spot of hair algae that just wouldn't go away. Otherwise tank looking great now, unfortunately this has almost now become my more liked tank than my "main tank" lol. Stocked fully yesterday with corals and also added 5 new Zoa Frags today :X. They didn't all open up yet after a coral dip, but I was too impatient to wait and just took the photo here. Really can see the lack of quality in this Zetlight just in the photos, funny how it looks good kind of to the "naked eye" but the camera shows all, and how weak the actual light is. But there is a good amount of blue... so idk. I think everything will live just fine, but I don't know how great the growth will be in this tank. I might end up upgrading this light. sheesh but I didn't wanna... the things we do for our hobbies. CUC did miracles of course as they are supposed to. Honestly too tired to list out all my coral list. I'll do a full list later. but heres a photo. AWKWARD PANO: Quote Link to comment
TerraIncognita
8/18 - nothing exciting, increased the return with a spare pump I had around but created a big bald spot. wanted to add a saddle nem though, so almost kind of liking it. well see. I need to scrub the glass. Fed today not since Friday. feeding frozen now. Reef frenzy Nano mix. everything opening. Need to get off my ass and glue those last 4 zoa frags being flung around the tank from snails and hermits. 😭🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ Quote Link to comment
Guest
Amazing! Great to see a hobbyist trying out this method, hopefully someday jake will see this 🙂 Quote Link to comment
TerraIncognita
just a cute shot. This is the 5th day in a row, that in the morning I find this guy up in this tree. I’ve never seen a hermit do this. guess he figures it’s his home now. dont know exactly what type of hermit he is, but he has bright bright blue eyes and orange/red legs. Quote Link to comment
TerraIncognita
This tank is less than 3 weeks old. i stocked these corals 2 weeks ago. i used live sand, and DRY rock. i DID use Dr. Toms. heres 3 photos of coral growth. Hard for you so see but it’s minor, anyway to me, corals growing, no algae, and everyone’s happy. No grows from the velvet monti, but the polyps are open more in this tank vs my more established one... but was probably a flow thing. this tank is destined for success. I’m supposed to feed today. Might however just feed a few pellets for the clowns. FTS: I haven't scraped the glass in 1 1/2 weeks actually I'm not gonna it's keeping my Trochus alive. Also that hermit is still living in this tree XD I moved him just once to see like "are you in trouble?" and he keeps going back, so #### it hahaha. I will add a final note here. My clownfish aren't bonded, and have their own spaces in the tank. This is a 10G tank, they're both super juvenile, and it seems with reduced feedings they really dont grow that much that fast right now. The black one seems to be growing more, so I hope he gets more dominant, When I got them he was the only one in the tank beating up all the other clowns in the Herum, and I got this one as it was just a "tiny" bit smaller. I NORMALLY go with 1 very clearly evidently smaller, however since I figured the black one was already the "bully" of the group it would be fine. Black one is still the dominant one in this tank, but instead of bonding, the white one was like "fine i'll just go on the left side then" and now they dont swim together. Im hoping that I can get them to bond as time goes on, but funny that they have been able to make spaces for themselves even in this 10G. 1 Quote Link to comment
TerraIncognita
Okay. I lied. EVEN THE VELVET MONTI, AN SPS, IS GROWING IN THIS 3 WEEK OLD TANK! What's up baby. Come on. This is pretty cool fam. Like this is a win I think.... Quote Link to comment
debbeach13
If every thing is growing I guess you do not have to upgrade the light unless you want to. The clowns might still get together a few weeks is not that long yet. I hope things continue to go well for you. 1 Quote Link to comment
TerraIncognita
Since I can't spend my money anywhere else.... I keep telling my girlfriend one day I'll make it back by fragging them XDDD haha i'm so full of shit. Definitely no final positions, I'm just lazy <3. Next weekend I'm going to have a crazy weekend. I will be de-fragging all frags, gluing, and finishing the final transfer from my Fluval 13.5 to my JBJ 45 Rimless. I'll then have this tank, fully stocked, and I'll have all LPS and Softies for my JBJ 45. Okay that's a lie, I'll also probably buy a hammer and frogspawn for my JBJ 45. Then I'll just add my last few SPS along the top of the JBJ over the next 3-4 months, one expensive un-holy frag at a time. At least this blasto got my hermit out of the tree and onto it XDDDD Quote Link to comment
TerraIncognita
Last post on this site. Going to R2R. still good growth, and everything is happy. No water changes. Limited feeding. 1,000,000 to skin a cat. You don’t have to wait 6 months. Goodbye Nano Reef Nay Sayers Quote Link to comment
