Is that what greens them? You'd swear from reading reef2reef that keeping them in the room with the wrong books can do it; blue light, high p04, low p04, imbalance in nitrate, being beneath a uv diode, pest pressure, mis-id' coral, so many threads and no real answers haha...

I am running my kessil at 90% already and the wd is right under the light...

Right under the light still depends on how deep below the water, or how high your light is mounted, etc.

How's the PE?  and how are other acros, color-wise?  you can kinda tell the overall tank conditions/parameters by PE and coloration.  if the nutrients or alkalinity aren't quite right, one or both of those will be off.  I don't test often enough to tell you what cause what or how...but I can tell you when they're (light, ca/alk/mg, nutrients) all aligned, acros look better.

While I don't believe that shaggy/crazy pe means a whole lot regarding how "healthy" the acros are, I'd still want to see some polyps as indicators that the corals are feeding and not just relying on the zooxanthellae photosynthesis for their energy.  But I do feel like there's some correlations with pe and growth rate, again, makes sense if they're fed from two sources vs one.

I can’t believe it’s been 4 months since I moved everything into the WB tank.

look at that WHITE CLEAN rock. Now let’s take a look at 4 months later below.  I now have growth and coloration in the acros, vs right at the beginning. well, the acros looked nice back then due to freshly transplanted.  But many had died during these four months.
Tank maturation is real, you need to give it time to get into its own groove. No rush.

Decided it’s time to add some more frags to this tank. They’re mostly basic/classic with a couple nice high end ones. Can you ID them?

But really, I'm happy to add other type of corals. but when it comes to non-acros, I'm very specific.  Like next torch is gold - true gold, none of odd names out with gold mixed (but i won't say no to a free one, if such thing exists). I'd also entertain a holygrail type.  there are a few types of goniporas that I truly want, like literally 2 or 3.  zoas, well, they're zoas...I love them. then I purged them, then I find diff varieties to love....right now, i'm down to two - utter chaos and rastas, that's it.  I'd love a few more NPS and/or gorg.

To sum it up, I'd add anything if I like it enough.  BUT acros are the only things getting the branch rock real estate going forward.

Same...I will.be very very selective in my corals going forward.  Besides acros, no encrusting corals on main rocks.  Everything needs to be movable.  Anything encrusting, even zoas, have to be on its own island.  And nothing green.  Hahaha.

I was watching a video from Waterbox and WWC on starting a SPS tank and it was a real eye opener for me. No SPS in a new tank for the first 3 months and no Acros for the first 6 months. Then tank parameters like ALK @ 8 to 9, Nitrate below 20 and Phosphate @ 0.4 to 0.5 🤔. Now I understand why I lost all my SPS 🙁. I am way behind you now on my WB 110, but I now have the proper rock scape so I can do a full SPS ,lighting completed and finalizing a few other details so maybe I can add water by the end of September .

I'm fairly certain folks like Jake Adams get away with hit-the-ground running SPS systems by routinely sacrificing new growth and pledging their firstborn to the reef gods.

You’ll miss green, I did. Now I have three green acros again, 😅

Yeah, we, as the hobbyists, always try to shortcut something, but unless you’re working with mature (and clean) live rocks, it’s pretty hard not to hit some bumps in the road. Glad things are still moving along for you.
Don’t forget to update your thread, bet @ninjamyst will find your build interesting. He likes the big tanks stuff

Yeah, sacrifice seems right. Just like @Cannedfish and his voodoo magic in 10 gallons.

stability and strong lighting will solve your green acros problem, that's the only way I can get my acros to color up

Nice 👍. I really look forward to seeing the setup coming together.  When r u starting a journal for it?

on another note, giving myself a “color-up” challenge.  I want to see what the two look like at the end of September, hopefully some improvements

The little one is TSA bill murray

The big one is the exact same piece as below, it grew a little bit since I had it, but the color tanked majorly due to the new tank startup  8D80F587-94C7-4765-A87C-90F9BBFDB64D.thumb.jpeg.a8d6805a39f46e1fa80d810bb08892d7.jpeg

Wow, can't wait for those to color up.  TSA Bill Murray is on my list too.

My tank doesn't get here till end of November.  Perfect for black Friday shopping.

Just a random record of the acros topdown tonight. While I won’t say I’m out of the woods yet, the acros are starting to color back up. yes, most of these were either plain green or brown.  Even the ones on the rack came from @Thrassian Atoll full of colors, then proceeded to go dull in my tank

Thanks!  Yup, scoly’s may be my fav “meaty” lps rn. I was so tempted to get more scoly yesterday while at the LFS picking up the Aussie torch.  He had 6-7 scoly’s available  with varying colors/patterns.  But these three I have now def have better stories behind them.

Lost the gold torch…..again, within a week of purchase. it’s my biggest cursed coral!!!

found out later that the tank’s alk had drifted in to 5.5-5.6 dKh 🤦🏻‍♂️  I’ve been manually dosing, nightly, but I guess The tank hit some growth spurts from coralline, along with a few corals.

fall is here, hope to have more time to pay attention to the tank soon

So my color up challenge also hit a road bump due to the alk incident. But the aquaticman table is actually showing growth and some PE for the first time in this tank!

I feel ya. I’m having a super bad issue now with the cyano in the big tank and my euphyllia slowly dying off. Being at work so much is not keeping my tanks happy 😢

Sorry to read about the torch. Now that you found the problem was probably the alk swing at least you can correct that.
