Helpa Noobie, Gray Slime thing on side of Blasto Frag

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just got this blasto frag and there is a gray slime thing on the side, with some spots.  Is this normal, is it healing, another coral attached, something super bad I need to get off of there?

Any help is appreciated.

Can you get a picture in the water? A lot of things lose shape and texture out of the water.  My first guess would be a sponge, but I can't say for sure without seeing more detail.

Looks like a sponge. They're generally harmless, but some can overgrow corals, so I don't think I'd want one growing on a coral frag. Removing it is probably the right call. You could always put it on a shell or something and see what it does in your tank, though- might be interesting.
