Lowering the water level of overflow section of AIO

I'm attempting to adjust the water level in the back filtration section of my new IM 20 Peninsula AIO aquarium, especially in the first chamber. The water level is too high and I can't seem to figure out how to lower it to an appropriate level, where it waterfalls through the media basket. When I attempt to remove enough water it causes the return section to become too low. I'm running the included media basket with filter floss & carbon (changed filter floss today) and the IM desktop skimmer in the middle section. I'm sure it's an easy fix so any advice would be helpful, thanks!
