Looking good.  More space is always good.  What about the new radion XR15 for lighting.  I think it's $420.

I was looking at that and I'm definitely tempted! Adding the mounting arm and diffuser puts the total at $561, but I might just have to do it...

Might be able to hold off on the diffuser now that the leds are spread out.

Good catch! I missed that. Gonna do a little more research, but I think the XR15 might be exactly what I’m looking for.

A few things to report on from the last few days.

  • I pulled the trigger on ordering the Radion XR15 G5! Suuuuper pumped to try out this light. I'm hoping for a more even light spread and better color compared to the AI Prime.
  • I took the fish murdering pom pom crab back to my lfs. He ended up in an acclimation box that will function nicely as a crab jail for the little killer. Serves him right.
  • I've decided to sell/trade a few of my coral colonies - they unfortunately don't really fit in with the stocking and aquascaping plans I have for the new tank. I know that this is old hat for a lot of you, but this will be the first time I'll be parting with any of the coral I've grown out, so it was surprisingly difficult to make that decision. I'm also totally lost in terms of pricing/what would be fair to ask for in return. I've done a decent amount of research and prices are all over the map. I'm posting a separate topic about it, but if any of you have pricing suggestions, please help. Also, if any of you are near the Boston area and are interested, let me know! I'm selling or trading the following (all of these are visible in the fts of the IM10 in the first post):
    • Duncan colony, at least 28 heads at last count
    • Acan rock with a red acan and an Incredible Rose micromussa
    • Splattering branching hammer, three heads
    • Teal hammer with two massive heads, like over 6" across
    • Angel Tears zoa rock
  • I did a 10% water change and tested params - pH and alkalinity are a bit low (7.8 and 6.3, respectively), but luckily Bulk Reef Supply came through with a sale on Red Sea dosing and testing products. I decided to start simple and manually dose ABC+. I also ordered the A, B, and C bottled supplements to fine tune levels if needed. At some point I want to buy some dosing pumps, but it would be beyond overkill for the current amount of coral in the tank.
  • The clowns have been much more active since my last post and seem very happy in their new home!

I finally had some time to get the dslr out and take some photos! I'm much happier with how the camera handles color in the tank compared to my phone (also, shooting in RAW is really irreplaceable for color-sensitive work like this). I don't have much experience with macro photography; I need to work on my control of the focal plane to better isolate the subject of the photo, but overall I'm pretty happy with how these turned out for a first go-round.

A bit of a puzzler today - I noticed that Harley has one small white bump on him. Definitely wasn't there yesterday. He's acting completely normal and ate this morning. This happened once before quite a while ago and it just went away on its own. Going to soak pellets in garlic before I feed tonight, but at this point, I feel like dipping or QTing would hurt more than it would help.

Possibly lymphosistis...may want to Google and see if that is the case.  It's normally not a big deal though and with good water quality and proper diet will go away on its own.

I would agree with you, but whatever the growth was is now gone. From what I've read, lympho sticks around for a few weeks before clearing. There's a small blemish where the growth was. Both clowns are acting normally, so I'm just going to keep a closer eye on them for now and hope nothing further pops up.

Correct, not lympho then.  I'm sure they'll be fine.

Clownfish (non) crisis averted, I decided to take advantage of Aqua SD’s Memorial Day sale and order some new coral! Can’t wait to see these in person 😃

Nothing wrong with taking advantage of discounts

Cant grumble at a discount! Looking forward to pics once they arrive.

I clearly had no choice. It was the responsible thing to do. It also doesn't help that my partner is now 100% emotionally invested in this tank, so she's not going to be the responsible one 😁 She's as excited as I am hahaha

It’s a new ato reservoir!

This is twice the size of my temporary reservoir solution and more importantly, it’s way prettier.

Thankfully, the measurements I took when I installed the control panel were correct. Exactly a quarter inch to spare! Just waiting on some new tubing before I transfer the ato pump into the new reservoir.

Absolutely beautiful so far! Love your fluffy acans. One of my favorite corals.

Thank you!! I was thinking about selling the acans, but I love them too much and now I’m trying to figure out how to make them work with the new aquascape.

Looks like the new corals will be arriving tomorrow! I still gotta get some of my current colonies sold, but I can put the new stuff on a frag rack for the time being.

I’ve had some diatoms popping up over the last couple of days, mostly on the sand. The CUC has gotten right to work, though. It’s nice to see my snails earn their keep instead of just munching whatever is on the glass. Testing water params tonight and will probably do a small water change in preparation for the new additions.
