Snow_Phoenix
@Dirté Sanchez - I think you're right on the monti ID. https://vividaquariums.com/collections/montipora/products/purple-rim-montipora-undata-coral ^That is how my monti currently looks like - except the green part is brighter. But mine does have the white polyps, and the purplish/pinkish rim. Kinda cool. Thanks for the ID! 🙂 (Monti pic from Vivid Aquariums - full credit goes to them for the pic) 2 Quote Link to comment

Snow_Phoenix
I forgot to add - since Midnight had Ich, this tank will go fishless until September 30/2020. (Slightly more than 76 days - figured an extra day or two wouldn't hurt). If I change my mind and decide to try out a fish again for this tank, I'll probably acquire it some time either in early or the middle of Sept., and I *will QT it downstairs, in the library, until I can safely add it to the DT. I've see this tank chug along perfectly fine without a fish, so tbh, fish aren't really *necessary for the pico (although I'm not opposed to getting one in the far future). I think I'll just try to find a really nice nano-sized crab and shrimp (a second one - small species) for the tank. These were the options I was looking into: 1. Crab (pick *one) : -Porcelain Anemone Crab --> quite common here -Gaudy Clown Crab --> very, very rare find -Pom pom crab 2. Shrimp (pick *one) : -Candycane Pistol Shrimp --> Always tags along with goby, will try to see if I can get a hold of a separately-sold one -White Spotted Anemone Shrimp --> quite common here -Sugarcane Shrimp --> Often mistakenly sold as Peppermint Shrimp -GCBS (Zanzibar Shrimp) --> I loved mine in the 60G until it passed -BCBS --> rare find, haven't seen this in years -YCBS --> Also rarely sold here Also, I'm down to 53 coral types because I did lose some zoa frags. And I think I also lost my God of War favia (I can't find it - it's literally MIA). 😞 So I have a bit more free space on the sandbed. I might return my green galaxea from the 60G back to the pico, *or add another zoa frag...*or even get more shrooms. I haven't quite decided yet. 🤔 13 minutes ago, Dirté Sanchez said: It’s a pretty monti- I’ve pondered buying it more than once. Yeah, it is! Hope you do get one. I enjoy my montihat very much. 🙂 2 Quote Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
I hate to say it, but after Midnight died overnight, I noticed my fungias and leptastreas had full PE again. 🤐 : That isn't the only thing. It looks like my BCG had been nipping on my acans too. They've lost some heads, but now that there isn't a fish...puffy acans...? 🤐 : So, uh. This is...good? 5 Quote Link to comment
debbeach13
Sorry about midnight. He had some problems from the start. I don't think he would have lasted as long as he did at the store. That's great news about the zoanthids and all the other corals. Do you still have the other BCG in the sump? 2 Quote Link to comment

The other BCG is in the nano and has been missing since yesterday. I think it's gone too. 😭 5 Quote Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
Pox free, but this area is now bald and has no polyps. Hoping for a comeback and regrowth: Harvey peeking: Baby red blasto coming up: Hmm. My cyphastrea developed a bald spot overnight. I think it could be kH-related, but I'm not entirely sure: 🤔 Green weeping willow toadstool is slowly angling up. It's sideways now, but it used to be completely flopped over just last week. It appears to have grown a little bit as well: 5 Quote Link to comment

I honestly don't know what I was expecting - a miraculous recovery? Sigh. 😞 That's the main problem with wild-caught fish - most of them arrive unhealthy or malnourished. I'll be much more careful when I select small fish in the future. But tbh, the coloration of these gobies made it very difficult to see if anything was wrong with them, until they were actually in my tank and directly under my lights. 😕 2 Quote Link to comment
Ratvan
This little tank is making me want to restart my old school pico tank, that one was fun 2 1 Quote Link to comment

I honestly didn't expect this tiny tank to be able to host so many different types of corals, and yet somehow it does. And it does make me happy, despite the troubles I've encountered. 🙂 2 1 Quote Link to comment

Tired
Has Harvey caused any troubles? I've been looking for a shrimp that's not overly likely to bother everything like cleaner shrimp will. Does he steal from things when you feed them, or pick at anything? 1 Quote Link to comment

He only picks on fallen pellets or microalgae. He doesn't bother any of the other livestock or corals otherwise, from what I've observed. 4 Quote Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
Some topview shots: Duncan coral: A part of the current zoa garden: The AOGs have actually fused with the Tubbs blue & peacock frags. It's currently the fastest growing zoa in the tank, and I love the 'mat'-like effect it has on the sandbed. 😊 Purple death palys remain the fastest growing paly, and possibly the fastest growing coral overall. I still haven't done a WC. Was too busy setting up a canister filter for my eel tank outdoors. 😄 5 Quote Link to comment

Snow_Phoenix
Mini update ahead! 😊 Just turned the lights on for the day - the rainbow bali brain looks a bit wrinkly: 😄 The sunflower zoas finally (!) have some new polyps popping up - can you spot the new tiny head hidden in the back of the front polyp? 🤗 : The montihat is still flaring out slowly. I'm loving that purplish-pinkish rim: 😊 The metallic GSP is slowly conquering the sandbed. I'm debating if I should trim off one of its runners, and glue it to the back wall to see if it can grow there and create a carpet/mat-like effect: 🤔 Well, that's it for now. 😊 3 Quote Link to comment
Tired
I would be very disinclined to have more than one patch of GSP in a 3-gallon tank, pretty as that stuff is. Quote Link to comment

Lypto
That's a nicely diverse tank! Have you ever had a pederson's anemone shrimp? your corals look really happy despite the pox outbreak. 1 Quote Link to comment
Tired
GSP is pretty invasive, especially once you get a big patch of it. You generally want to try and corral it as well as possible. Most zoas, IIRC, should grow up the back wall just fine. Or a sympodium, if you can get it. It looks like clove polyps growing out of a mat, but it doesn't grow nearly as fast as them. Very pretty. Fairly new to the hobby, I think? I haven't had mine grow enough to be confident in saying what it likes, but most of the care info I've found describes them as a fairly hardy, relatively un-fussy coral. 1 Quote Link to comment

I honestly don't want to jinx it by adding too much, but I definitely would love to add 2 or 3 small sticks in this in the future - just to try and grow them out. 🙂 18 minutes ago, Lypto said: That's a nicely diverse tank! I don't think they import Pederson's nem shrimp over here, but they do import the white spotted nem shrimp (Periclimenes brevicarpalis) here a couple of times per year. I've kept them before, and they're actually wonderful shrimp. I used to have a large female that hosted a goniopora and never left it. 🙂 Btw, do you still keep jellyfish? I distinctly recall you trying to raise them - how did it go? The only jellies I've seen here are moon jellies at the LFS. They're pretty, but incredibly delicate and don't seem to last beyond six months at the store. 13 minutes ago, Tired said: GSP is pretty invasive, especially once you get a big patch of it. I actually have two types of GSP in the tank - the metallic one, which I posted a pic of earlier (and is currently growing on the sandbed), and the standard neon GSP, which is mostly a clump, and hasn't spread out yet. I just googled it up and the sympodium looks lovely. 🙂 My primary LFS actually showed me pics of various clove polyp morphs which they're aquaculturing in one of their coral farms. I think once they put some frags up for sale, I might grab 2 or 3 different varieties and try to stick it to the back wall. Just hope my derpy turbo snails don't knock it off though. Those two are super clumsy. 😕 1 Quote Link to comment
