einstein0123
I have had this starting to grow in my 3 month old nano, and I'm not sure if it is cyanobacteria or dinoflagellates. If anyone has some insight into what this is and how I can actually get rid of it please let me know. Thanks 1 Quote Link to comment
mcarroll
Kinda looks like Dino's. Can you post any/all current details about your tank as well as a brief history of how it got to the way we see it in the pics? Please include all current test results....especially phosphates. If you can look at a sample under a microscope it would be extremely helpful. Get some pics (and a movie) with your cellphone camera if you do. 1 Quote Link to comment
Cflo
You can easily identify Dinos with a cheap microscope. I got a child’s one from a science kit for $10. Dinos look like little kites flying around under the microscope. If it is Dinos, stop doing water changes, let your nutrients come up, take out your clean up crew, and get a uv sterilizer. This is the only way I’d won over Dinos in the past. H2O2 and blackouts don’t work. Personally I think it’s cyano though. 2 Quote Link to comment
Clown79
Looks like cyano to me. You can do the jar test which will determine if you have dino's or cyano. Jar test: Get some water from the tank and run it through paper towel into the jar. Place lid on jar and shake Place in ambient light for 4 - 24hrs. If clumps appear in the clear water- its dino 1 Quote Link to comment
