Orange Passion is def on my list of possibilities!

A frag of homewrecker up here is $600 and Confetti is $300. That's a bit too rich for my blood while I am still getting the sps thing figured out lol Maybe once I get things really dialed in lol

Ok so cheaper...

It's strange, over the past few days, my Royal Gramma has been extremely shy hiding in her cave and not leaving, even when feeding except for very quick darts to grab a bite.

I haven't seen any aggression between the Gramma and the clowns before this and I literally face the tank all day every day so I feel like I would have seen it.

I know she's still in there cause her little head pokes out of the cave.

I wonder what caused the change because before she was always out and about schooling with the clowns. I hope it's a temporary change because it makes me anxious about her getting enough to eat 😞

Well, what I feared has happened. This morning I woke up to find my darling Royal Gramma dead. I finally discovered why she was hiding out in her cave so much yesterday. She seems to have had developed some sort of swim bladder issue. Yesterday I saw her come out and do all this erratic swimming where she was flipping upside down and couldn't control herself. I had seen this sort of swimming behaviour on my first Royal Gramma the day before she passed too.

I remember at the time people telling me it was a common problem with Royal Grammas. I don't think I will try for another one at this point, I will try some other types of hardy fish once the mourning period is over.

Maybe now I can get two fish and QT them together. I already was cycling my qt system in preparation for the Pink Streaked Wrasse which I'm starting to believe this guy is lying about it being on the way lol We'll see what the status is once the QT is done cycling.

Nitrates are still at the 2 ppm mark even with heavy daily feeding and only 3 hrs lights on on the mini fuge in the back. Absolutely fascinating to me.

Off to my local shop, I'm low on red sea AB+ and frozen food. Wonder if I'll get into more trouble...

everyone, at least those that I know and interact with on here, killed their acros at one point or another, especially more so in the beginning.

I can count the number of acros I have NOT killed on one hand.  I shutter to think about how much money I've spent just for them to bleach out either overnight or within 6 months.  I'm quite the slow learner, but I've just about given up on the idea of ever keeping SPS long term.

Coincidentally, PC Rainbow was my most recent fatality due to an alk swing.

i do have a strange question if anyone can chime in,   the sponge filter that originally comes with the set up doesnt leave much room for biomedia like matrix or ceramic rings....do you figure its a good idea to cut the bottom out of the sponge and just fill it with loose media ?  or is that a horrible idea,  i hear the word "nitrate trap" alot.

You don't need biomedia. Your live rock will house all the bacteria you need.

guess i always thought it was a necessity seeing how almost everyone uses it,  perhaps it held more bacteria then live rock and sand? i never really thought about it....monkey see monkey do? lol

Actually, a lot of people don't use it. In fact, there are a number of really nice tanks that have no filter at all, only powerheads for water movement. Bio-media is good in some freshwater tanks, but not needed in saltwater.
