Hammer Coral- Does this look right?

Recommended Posts

einstein0123

I purchased a neon hammer from my LFS a few weeks ago, and I am curious about the "patchiness" in the neon tips of the coral. Is it normal for hammers to look like this, or is there a factor I am overlooking that may be contributing to the patchy/fading look of the green tips? Can this be an indicator of an unhealthy hammer coral? Thanks in advance for the insight.

Is the patchiness just starting or did it come that way?

It's been about the same since I bought it.

Those are called marbled, or splattered hammers. It’s just the way they are. Kind of a cool morph, in my opinion. Nothing to be worried or concerned about.

That's a marbled hammer. It's supposed to look like that.

Thank you for the info, I'm relatively new to the hobby so I'm perpetually concerned about the health of every coral

Never be afraid to ask. We'd all much rather you ask, than let something die, that could have been prevented.
