MKaehny
Hi! I'm Melissa and I teach science at TJMS in Frederick, MD. I'm going to be setting up a 10g Nuvo tank in my classroom (at least to start!). About half of my students are from low income families and don't have the opportunities to go to the larger aquariums or vacation where they might can interact with a reef habitat. I'm planning on sticking with easy to care for corals and fish, so fingers crossed all goes well! 3 Quote Link to comment
mitten_reef
There have been a few classroom tank journals in here. I can’t seem to recall any of the names atm. 😔 1 Quote Link to comment
mitten_reef
Oh, @hinnenkm and @aclman88 might be able to chime in on their experience. 3 Quote Link to comment
hinnenkm
Yes, feel free to reach out with any questions you have! I’m more active on Instagram @northern_reefs than I am on here though. I’ve got the Nuvo 10 set up in my 5th grade classroom and think it is pretty similar to what it sounds like you want to do. 4 Quote Link to comment

I have not paid a cent for my tank due to the generosity of various manufacturers and companies. As far as running the tank in a classroom, I have not experience as of yet (live rock just came in today), but my thread might be helpful; it has a lot of good advice and lists companies that donated items. If you need rock or sand, Caribsea was wonderful and sent me rocks and sand right away. AquaFX sent a free RODI unit; this is something I highly recommened since buying distilled water will get old quick, especially if you have to cart it to school. 1 Quote Link to comment

DISQUALIFIED-QQ
As a fellow local, welcome to the forums! I can also be reached in person at the Burtonsville Petco. I work there as the aquatics specialist. Also consider visiting Fintastic Aquariums; it's in Frederick kinda off US-15 on Rosemont. 1 Quote Link to comment
