banasophia
Ah glad you did the shameless plug in the contest thread... looks like I wasn’t following yet. Your tank’s looking really nice! Love the tanaka’s pygmy wrasse... I really wanted one for my 32, but I had a hard time finding one in stock and ended up with a pink streak instead. Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
I am running without filter floss currently as if I do within 2-3 days it restricts flow and the lid gets submerged. No floss=no problem. I also put the 10k bulb back in. Gobies seem to have paired as they typically share the same entrance to the den. Both take turns guiding the pistol too with the smaller one being slightly better. 5 Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
Removed a damn aiptasia from the rocks that started dry, which means they spread. FML I have been so diligent about removal lopping off giant chunks of rock to ensure their foot comes along. Hoping this doesn’t persist but given I have removed about 10 aiptasia I think it’s a pipe dream. I should start looking for berghia haha See the pistol? Or atleast his claws 4 Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
Today was the first day the pink streaked wrasse came out and ate pellets and flakes during feeding time. Seems to be settling in but still not super confident. 5 Quote Link to comment
ef4life
I just used f aptasia for the first time today, hopefully it works good. It looks exactly like aptasia x. Quote Link to comment

It looks exactly like aptasia x. Aiptasia X spreads them IME, I have some on hand and refuse to use it. Also make sure to remove all excess residue, I blame this for killing my mandarins last year as I went ham on killing some aiptasia and shortly after the small one died and a few weeks later my large male too. Thinking copepods picked up the residue and became slightly toxic and eating tons of those took its toll. 1 Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
Went to a local reefers basement(90miles round trip) and scored a plate coral and a cleaner shrimp. I entered through an already open walk out basement door and socially distanced of course..... but it was nice taking a moment to live and peruse through a few frag tanks. Here they are in an examination bowl Sellers photo the plate seems ok from the top but when I looked from the underside it’s flesh doesn’t cover the entire bottom. On all other plates I have kept it has been a fleshy rounded dome shape. I just hope its healthy/been healthy, almost looks like it wasn’t a settled coral but one that grew from an old plate skeleton(like a split/bud) The Montipora Spongodes that I got a few weeks ago is showing good PE. It’s very brown and I like it 2 Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
New plate puffed up overnight Room light only actinic only with orange filter my other plate cool encruster that hopefully takes over the millennium falcon once it’s GHA is taken care of by my hermits Gonzos golden dragon mushroom booger Just for a reference shot once it gets bigger the two smaller heads of the WWC blasto have been receding but the other two are fine, and the PPE blastos underneath are coming back from the brink! They were covered in GHA when I added them! 😍JF spitfire leptastrea towards the back Pumpkin Spice leptastrea towards the back another favorite🎃 new shrimp haven’t done a WC in three weeks and I’ve had it mixing in a bucket the whole time, I was joking with my wife the buckets almost cycled I just need to add a light. So WC today and a toothbrush detailing should have it primed for a FTS tomorrow... lots of hairy algae on the back glass right now haha 3 Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
Post WC FTS in it you can see the new flipper Pico. It’s only rated for 6mm glass which this tank is and you can feel it’s at its limits. I do like that you can flip the outside magnet and it flips the inside from Velcro to scraper. Slick design. Also it has a square shape on the Velcro pad which makes corners easier than with other competitors Why do I love this brown coral? some random blue mushroom I’ve owned forever, base is iridescent green under actinic better angle on the new gonzos golden mushroom, I like it’s pink skirt and under actinic it’s absurd looking 1 Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
Picked up some corals today from a local forum. Sent the money via paypal and picked them up from their mailbox. Transaction involved some degree of trust in a stranger but desperate times call for desperate measures.... I need coral. picked up this goni and yellow porites 4 Quote Link to comment

When I show my 3 year old the tank with only actinic he says “wow so colorful!” It’s pretty rewarding to hear haha 2 Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
My wife has claimed this to be her favorite coral I own.... this goniopora better not die on me as this is ground breaking news she has a positive opinion on a coral. Look at that polyp extension! 3 1 2 Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
Junky April FTS Cleaner shrimp has been accepted and is living up to his name, he was definitely removing parasites from the smaller wheelers goby and would yank something off and the fish would reactingly jerk away but would return moments later to have it done again. Lots of dental works too not sure if I mentioned it before but I got a frag of yellow porites(not very yellow haha) I think it’s a cool lesser seen coral and it was only 10$ haha 2 Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
Did a water change today and got some pics a few hours later. Still more cleaning to do and definitely some wiping of salt spill on the back but I know you guys won’t judge. Also beware bubble algae, GHA, bryopsis perhaps too? Haha but also lots of cool macros starting from the kp aquatics rock, which I may remove to open sandbed up again once the tank is more established. 3 Quote Link to comment

MainelyReefer
So I occasionally type reef or coral into craigslist just for shits. (Scored a $20 scoly once still one of my best pieces). Yesterday’s score was supposed to be a 20+ head Acan colony for $30. It turned out to be only blasto merlettis but I bought them anyway as $30 was fair. 20+ acans would have been unreal though haha. Probably a good thing I didn’t try buying the $5 maxi mini nem sight unseen. 3 Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
A few months ago on my local forum I won a $50 gift card to one of the sponsors in a photo of the month contest. Here was the photo.... subject was reef fish. This guy was up against pics of classy expensive fish and he won, RIP little carpet surfing YCG thanks for the loot. well today I finally utilize those funds and get an orange plate coral and some easy SPS to be spread among my tanks. The list of corals available for $10 was pretty fire I thought, I highlighted my final choices. annoyingly blue fun photo, This is actinic only with an orange camera filter. So much day glo not even a filter can help. I put this Goni in the lowest flow spot of the tank, pissed for two days then has been blowing up all over since. Leaving it haha. Also a fourth polyp of those rastas is officially growing and the first signs of all my leptastreas encrusting is happening 2 Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
May FTS just grabbed it to be in compliance new orange plate makes for a nice trio of color 3 Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
Loving the trio i put the digitata I got in my lagoon but they look good too so here they are haha. Two birdsnest were added to the 365 though pics to come 4 Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
Finally starting to see growth on most corals! really excited this JF alien pox cyphastrea is starting to encrust the millenium falcon some algae to clean up in the gorg section this red SPS center shot has recently put out a few nubs. I think it’s digitata and the porites to the left has been encrusting over the superglued base. to the right of the ricordea and under the ledge slightly is my gonzo’s golden Dragon bounce, it’s coloring up nicely hopefully it bubbles a little one day but started out as an unattached booger Goni 3 Quote Link to comment
