MinnReefer
This is my first reef tank. Noticed the contest last week and jumped in. Tank: EVO 13.5 Still gathering up the other supplies I will be needing. Need to built some sort of stand. So hopefully I will have it up and running in the next week. Hope to keep some softies and maybe LPS. Going to keep it stock to start out but I am sure the mods will start happening the more research I do. Excited to participate. Have always wanted a reef tank. So here we go! 3 Quote Link to comment

kimberbee
Please be sure to add the "365 day challenge" tag to your thread! It's so all these contest tanks can be located easier! Quote Link to comment
MinnReefer
Well I finally got the tank set up on a temporary stand. Got it wet on Sunday and started the cycle. Now it’s just a waiting game. Can’t wait to add something to the tank but I am going to try and be patient - I hope. 1 Quote Link to comment
kimberbee
How's this tank going? Were you able to get some things added this month? 1 Quote Link to comment
MinnReefer
I upgraded my pump - does that count? I finally made a decent stand out of a kitchen cabinet base and added a top. My tank finally cycled - ammonia and nitrites at zero and the nitrates sky rocketed so I just did a major water change. Hopefully in a few days I can add something living but I have no idea what to start with. Luckily my LFS is open by appointment so I will have to try and get there next week sometime. 3 Quote Link to comment
MinnReefer
FTS for April. Dealing with a micro bubble issue and having no success getting rid of them. Hopefully I can get out this weekend and add my first coral or fish. I am dying to get something in there to watch besides all the damn bubbles. 1 Quote Link to comment

I've read that the skimmer with these usually takes 3-4 weeks to break in... Also what's the water level at the back like? Is the return fully submerged? Quote Link to comment
MinnReefer
No skimmer. Everything is completely submerged. 1 Quote Link to comment

MinnReefer
Finally! I made it out to my LFS on Sunday and got my first corals - a couple zoas, a trumpet - nothing fancy. Also found a nice clown goby. But I Iove finally having something in the tank besides my CUC. So I will see how they do for a week or two and then find something else interesting to add. MinnReefer
Start off with the FTS for May. I lost my clown goby after just a few days - no idea why. Since then I have added a few more corals - a GSP, gorgonian and a mushroom. All the coral appear to be doing well. I also added a pair of ocellaris clowns, yellow watchman goby and a pistol shrimp. It is nice to have some movement in the tank with the clowns. Going to let everything settle in for a few weeks before adding some more corals. But now that I have gotten going it is hard not just keep buying. Already starting to think about a larger tank. 1 Quote Link to comment

MinnReefer
Well the day started off badly. Came down to find both of my clowns and my royal gramma dead. No idea what caused that. I had just tested my parameters yesterday and everything looked good. The watchman goby appears to be fine but so did the clowns and gramma yesterday. So we will see what happens. I think I will lay off the fish for a bit and concentrate on corals for awhile. They all are doing well. 1 Quote Link to comment
debbeach13
So sorry about the fish. You are not alone. The last few days have had many fish losses. 1 Quote Link to comment
MinnReefer
So quite a few changes since my last post. I bought another royal gramma and he is doing very well. My emerald crab went rogue on me and ate most of my GSP - so off to the LFS he went. I have also added quite a few more coral - rainbow Ricordea, green base Duncan, two nirvana zoas, Xenia, green implosion paly, galaxea, another GSP, lemon laser clove, ice dragon favite, cherry red goni(my favorite) and a fire lamellosa. They are all doing great except for the clove. I might have it in too much flow. I also replaced my stock lights and hood with a Prime 16HD, jumpguard lid and a Intank filter cover. I love the prime even in the acclimation mode. The tank looks totally different and the colors from the corals now really pop. FTS for June. Ah - my pictures look like crap using my very old iPhone 6. 2 Quote Link to comment

MinnReefer
FTS for November just a little late. Not a lot going on with the tank. I finally am able to keep some fish alive. I have two chromis’s and a watchman goby. The tank is packed with coral - too much coral. I am running into spacing issues. So I was excited on Black Friday to order an IM SR Pro 80 - bad part is it won’t ship until end of January. I was also able to buy all my rock and lights from BRS. So now I just wait. 2 1 Quote Link to comment
MinnReefer
FTS for December. Had an exciting end of December - my neo-therm heater stopped working about midnight on the 29th. It gave a loud pop and then there was a burning rubber electrical smell. It also left some sort an oily residue on the water surface. Luckily I was up and close enough to hear the noise from the basement or it would have went all night like that. I did a quick water change and replaced my carbon. Put my backup heater in the tank. I did another water change the next day and everything is doing well - thank goodness. I have never had a heater go out like that before. It took a few days just get that smell out of the house. Hoping for a quieter January. 1 Quote Link to comment
