O-M-G re babies!  So cool!

Yeah! It has been really interesting watching the male care for the eggs!! Next time I’ll have to see if I can get some video.

That's amazing!

My Steinitz gobies were spawning too - but I think my female reabsorbed the eggs (or if she laid them somewhere, I couldn't find it). No babies though. 😞

So nice to see fish spawning/laying eggs. And the 'caviar with eyes' actually looks cute haha. 😄

Yeah so fun to observe. I was lucky mine chose a spot where I could easily see them... the female likes to hang out behind the scape a lot, so I’m hoping she doesn’t leave the next clutch (?) back there. I’ll bet yours just spawned somewhere that you couldn’t see them... they’re really hard to see!!!

And this is happening - right now! Out with the old, in with the new!! So interesting this is taking place the day after the last clutch hatched.

That's pretty crazy! I guess they don't call them a "mated pair" for nothing! 😅

It's wild that those gobies would be spawning so prolifically in such a new tank. Just goes to show that they must be very happy fish. 👍

Right?! I’ve been thinking, wow I thought I had ordered a mated pair, not a mating pair!! 😂🤣

Yes! They are still doing their thing right now, too!!

Wowee... looks like even more this time around! Sorry the pics are so bad... hard to get the lighting right to get a good shot.

Spawning of this species is well documented, and pairing and spawning are often observed in aquaria. This species can lay 500-800 eggs every 10 days, hatching in about 8-9 days. They spend about 25-28 days as larva until metamorphosis.

I'm not entirely sure that masked goby and neon goby larva share the same feeding challenges; however, here is some information regarding raising masked gobies, which may be helpful:

Great info, thank you so much! They are tiny breeding machines!! It will be interesting to see whether they continue to spawn in my system. I do feel bad that it probably won’t lead to any surviving offspring... they’re putting so much energy into making and caring for these eggs.

Finally did my background today! Here are a couple of shots of the work in progress... will post a pic of the results tonight or tomorrow after the water clears up cuz I had to clean the glass. It was nice to spend some time outside today, working on a project just for fun.

Tried to talk my daughter into doing the pic for me, but that was a no go... I was on my own. 🙄 I couldn’t do the picture quite like my her original because we don’t have any watercolor pencils, so I  just did my best with the regular crayons colored pencils we had on hand. I think it came out pretty decent, and I can always redo the background in the future cuz it will just be taped in place.

The new background really looks excellent

Thanks!

I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out, especially happy I was able to recreate my daughter’s artwork for it... and she is happy with it too. Her artwork, and the shape of the Caribsea Liferock, were really my inspiration for this tank.

I somewhat regret not etching the inside of the glass before getting the tank wet. I had considered it to avoid the reflection on the back glass, but I was worried about not being able to remove all the etching chemicals when I was done, and also was worried it might look worse than the reflection since it would blur the background art and prevent being able to fully clean the glass. So... maybe it’s good it worked out the way it did.

It looks super good! I wish I saw more tanks with custom backgrounds - they are so easy to do! I did one with scrap booking paper my wife had around last year and it really, really adds to the look of the tank when you don't have a black or blue background!

Thanks so much! It’s fun to come up with your own, to really create a tank that suits you.

I’d love to see what you came up with for your tank... where do I look for a pic, is it in your thread in your signature?

Background looks awesome! I may have to do something similar when I finally pull the trigger on an EVO. My daughter does some great art as well, and I'll have to try and commission a piece from her. I've been trying to talk her into creating a space for the tank in her room but we haven't been able to pull that off yet.  lol

Yup - it's in my 20g build thread. You can see it in pretty much any picture taken after summer of last year.

You guys, I just went to take a pic of the fish babies and guess what? The old batch from yesterday must’ve hatched during the night/early morning and are already replaced! 😳😳😳 These guys are like the rabbits of the saltwater world!!! Sad that none of the offspring survive.

Yesterday, tiny eyes still visible:

Today, brand new clutch, no eyes yet:
