Primagen
Hi All so I’m im starting my first saltwater tank and might have made a mistake on salt choice. I have Tropic Marin Reef Pro salt but have read you need a calcium reactor with it after I ordered. I plan to have softies and LPS eventually but will start with fish once cycled(tank arrives today :) ). Will I need to dose with anything? Tank is a Biocube 32. Quote Link to comment
Elizabeth94
You don’t need a calcium reactor with any brand of salt you choose. Tropic Marin is a very good salt from what I understand. Once your tank starts to mature and your corals grow you may need to dose to keep everything stable. You just need to test your water and see what your tank needs. Quote Link to comment
Jmevox
You will be fine with no calcium reactor. A lot of people use it with no reactor. Keep an eye on alkalinity since TM pro has lower levels for keeping sps. Later on down the road you might need to dose 2 part but for now you will be fine. In my opinion TM pro is the best salt. Primagen
Awesome! Thank You! If the alkalinity gets low I use Kalkwasser from my understanding? Quote Link to comment
Jmevox
You can use kalkwasser in your auto top off water which helps raise alk and ph but its harder to dial in exactly because evaporation in your tank isn’t always going to be consistent. You need to just see what your tank is consuming. You may only need water changes or might need to dose 2 part. For now until you load your tank with corals. Water changes should be sufficient 1 Quote Link to comment
mcarroll
Regardless of the calcium reactor I'd consider returning the bucket of Pro Reef and exchanging it for a bucket of their standard formula. Better levels, especially for starting out. Maybe try selling the TMproreef if it's not returnable. Quote Link to comment
