Hitting up the local Hobby Lobby for some pvc foam board for the in tank baffles tomorrow

The the local big box pet store for some filter sizes

I’m not a fan of pvc foam. It gets everywhere and I think it soaks up water and becomes mush. But what do I know 🤷‍♂️

also I’m following your DIY build, if you need help or have questions don’t be shy to blow up my inbox or my build thread

What would you recommend as a alternative?

So the ebay all-in-one insert has been ordered and should be here in about a week or so

Both options look good (nice start).  Although I kind of prefer the two rock option.  That gives you more open sand, open water, and access to the surrounding glass.  Maybe angle the left rock at a 45 (sort of a compromise between the two).

  • 3 weeks later...

Glued the all-in-one insert in, Next is to paint the back or glue on the black ABS sheets I have on hand

So after a test run I may have to buy a smaller circulation pump,

I need to figure out the auto top off , the pump chamber has to much flow

maybe build a  baffle  to  smooth  the turbulence  to put the sensor in  or turn the circulation pump off every hour

and turn on the auto top off pump on.

you got the fiji cube insert?  looking good.

with the rock that is pukani yeah?  I would break it in to smaller pieces and putty it together make some cool scapes. one of the best rock for aquascape out there but hard to find these days.

did you cure it? I hear it can leach po4 pretty bad tho.

pukani yes, they have flat backs and bottoms via my sawzall

no precure but will add some bacteria in a bottle, plus a couple of bags of CaribSea baged life sand

cycle then water change, may add some sugar to get a bacterial bloom before  a massive water change or two
