MurpReefer
Hello All, I have not posted in a while, but thought I would give an update. I originally had a 29 gallon hexagon stand alone tank which I started in August of 2018. I upgraded into a 46 gallon bowfront with a 35 gallon sump in August of 2019. The rocks from the old tank went into the new DT, while the sand went into my refugium sump. I purchased a 55 gallon soap drum from from a car wash and pressure washed it. Testing for TDS in drum using RO/DI water reads zero. Use it for my water changes. I purchased the 46 gallon bowfront aquarium from petsmart on black friday. Drilled the holes for the overflow box and return. Built the stand using 8, 4x4 and 2x4 with 3/4 inch plywood. Purchased acrylic sheets 1/4 thick from Tap Plastics and fabricated using solvent welding for my two sumps. Side note: Great fun project, and only spent $225 on a 35 gallon sump, which is way cheaper than what you can buy. Used 1 inch bulkheads and abs to connect the two sumps. Plumbed the return with back flow prevention and overflow using abs to pvc cement and one inch pvc pipes. Using the herbie method with one emergency overflow that I maintain at a drip through a ball value. Tank Parameters: 1.026 Specific Gravity 78-79 F Lights on for 10 Hours a day Honesty time: I have test kits for calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, ammonia, nitrate, but DO Not Test (frankly unnecessary with quantity and frequency of water changes considering early stages of tank imo). Would like to acquire Trident. Test for PH weekly, sits at 8.2 Water Changes w Supplements: 30 Gallons a week with RO/DI 5 ml Kent Marine Purple Tech 5 ml Seachem Reef Trace 5 ml Red Sea Trace-Colors Iron 5 ml Kent Marine Strontium & Molybdenum 5 ml Kent Marine Coral Accel 5 ml Brightwell Aquatics Iodide 5 ml AcroPower Amino Acid Replace Filter Sock every three days The display tank following Inhabitants: Fish: 1 Ocellaris Clownfish 1 Aiptasia File Fish 1 Yellow Tang Inverts: 3 Peppermint Shrimp 10 Brown Cortez Hermits 5 Scarlets 2 Emerald Crabs 3 Trochus 10 Cerith 5 Astrae 2 Bumblebee 3 Nassarius 4 Trochus 2 Turbos 1 Orange Spot Butterscotch Nassarius Corals From Left to Right: Colony Brown Palythoa Red Cap Monti Blastomusa Blue Stylophora Kenya Slimer Acro Blue tip Hammer Coral Green Star Polyps Blue hued Birds Nest Xenia Colony Red Stylophoras Purple/Green Acan Green Spotted Mushroom Christmas Rock flower Anemone Zoas(blue and red center with yellow tips) Toadstool Pink tipped Green Bubble Anemone Blue/green mushroom 45 lbs Live Rock 1.5 inch base or 40lbs Carib Sea Bahamas oolite The display tank has the following equipment: Hydor Koralia 3g Third Generation Circ Pump 1950 Gph Three Hydor Koralia Nano Circ Pump 425 Gph Eshopps, Eclipse M Overflow Box Medium 800gph Two Macegrown 72 Watt Led Lights One 165 W Spectra Led Aquarium Light BN-Link 8 outlet w Timer Surge Protector The back sump( my gear sump) has the following equipment: 300watt Hygger Titanium Aquarium Heater Aquatop Multimedia Reactor(Carbon and a touch of GFO) Bubble Magnus Curve 5 Coralife Protein Skimmer BRS Universal CO2 Scrubber One Filter Sock Compartment w 4 inch sock (preferred) 6" dome Air Stone w Air Pump 10 Outlet Power Strip Surge Protector The front sump (refugium) has the following equipment and inhabitants: Reef Octopus Varios-2 DC Pump (792 gph) Hydor Koralia Nano Aquarium Circ Pump 240gph Hygger 6.2" Filter Media Block 7.9 lbs 1 Pound Ceramic Bio Balls 20 Pounds of Carib Sea Arag Hawaiin Black Sun Blaze Grow Light 2ft, 4lamps, 10000 lumens Chaeto 1 Mangrove Make my own fish food: Cuttle fish, sardines, oysters, scallops, fish eggs(orange), nori seaweed, thrown in blender with RO/DI water.
