Feeling sort of out of love with the tank as of late. I’m really happy with coral

growth. SPS especially, lots and lots of encrusting. However, I just don’t feel the same love as I did for my softy tanks.... I miss the hands off approach. Maybe the covid curse has something to do with it, general feelings of bummed out don’t help.

LFS’s are baron for livestock other than washed out, overgrown zoanthid frags. I need a kick in the pants or something new and exciting to get me fired up about it again.

Covid has severely impacted the hobby in my city. I hope it improves in the near future. I hope I snap out of my slump.

Nice tank!! Love all the colors! I totally get the softie thing. I recently downsized from the lagoon 25g To a rimless 12g seapora tank and decided to keep only soft corals in it! I've never had success with LPS for some reason and I just dont want to have to deal with dosing. I got a sunset montipora frag To add some colors (and it was 10$ so I figured why not). It's on a small flat rock on the sand bed so I can keep it small so this way water changes will suffice for alk and ca. I need a low maintenance tank hahaha. Waterchanges take like 10 minutes. Love it!!

Sorry about the blenny, it always sucks to lose a fish 😕

My luck as an Aquarist always seems to take the same path.......

NUDIBRANCHS!

this time montipora eating....

as soon as my yellow wrasse disappeared I noticed all my montis started to get munched on. needless to say I have ordered an army of wrasses, melenarus, green coris, six line.

should be here Wednesday

Current dosing schedule doesn’t seem to be keeping up with demand. Losing about .3dkh a day. Not bad but I want it more stable. Tweaked the two part dosing schedule. Should be better now.

Thanks so much. I love the colours too, can’t wait till these frags become colonies. Soft corals are the best, good decision 🙂 I’ve decided to fill my little fuge with random softies. Start with some gorgonians.

Fish arrived today.

30 minutes in the tank and the six line swam right into the stream 3!!!!! This thing is a fish killer, needless to say it has a mesh protected around it now.

either way check out my video I just uploaded.. new fish really add life to the tank.

Well... my fairy wrasse was found beat up and dead. I suspect big mama. It had a huge chunk bit out of its tail last week. Big mama has been super aggressive lately. Perhaps the new additions made her an even bigger b***h.

in other news I sold off all my euphyllia. They just didn’t fit in the scape or future plans for the tank. I’ll miss the dragon soul torch but oh well. Move forward, room for some smaller sps frags to fill In spaces now.

I’m also much happier having the sandbed frag free and no frag rack. Now I just need a better camera!

I had originally bought two six lines, one for myself and one for a friend. Well as you know my first one committed suicide but the second one I kept and has put in some serious work on the nudi problem. Every montipora has bounced back and are about 80% healed up. Well done wrasse army.

Picked up a neglected little goniastrea for cheap at the LFS today. Big sump clean and water change tomorrow. Gotta clean the skimmer and replace media in the reactor.

Some photos taken before lights out with an orange filter lens. My favourite time of day because the corals are just popping with colour.

Well I decided to mount some zoanthids to the scape in the main display. I’m impatient and want the “full” look.

officially a mixed reef now.

Cyano persists, zoanthid frags not doing well in display so moved some back to Fuge. Moved fast growing chalice away from sps.

Here are some pics 🙂

Cyano got REALLY BAD....

Big water change, changed reactor media, two day blackout, increased flow, decreased feedings, started dosing microbacter 7.... nothing was working. Decided to add red slime remover to get rid of it. I didn’t want to just slap a bandaid on the problem but my coral were suffering.

Zoanthids actually opening up today. Slime all but gone. Some of my sps have faded and are looking unwell, let’s hope they’re just upset from the blackout period... fingers crossed. Nice to see a clean sandbed though.

some pics of when it was at its worst, mid blackout, and after red slime remover treatment.

Okay. Update time.

the tank is finally 100% clear of cyano. Next steps, algae control. I can’t afford the price tag of a big ticket fish right now so I’m thinking..... mollies! $15 and I’ll have a wicked grazing crew! That is happening this weekend.

a few of my acros took a beating from the cyano battle but they seem to be bouncing back. Looking at pictures from 4 months ago and all I can say is holy growth Batman! I guess I’m doing something right.

heres some all blue, orange lens shots for your viewing pleasure.
