Always wonder how to incorporate these heavy duty shelf/bench as an aquarium stand; they are very cost effective for the load capacity! are there any certain measures that need to be taken using it around saltwater? Very cost effective other than the shipping costs! They work incredibly well. I’ve been impressed by them in the past. This time I think I will put some sort of clear coat on the steel frame to keep it rust proof. 1 Quote Link to comment

Floors won’t be done for another 2.5-3 weeks so I’ll expect to fill it up perhaps mid February. Going to dry fit the plumbing this week however. 1 Quote Link to comment
Sharbuckle
Stand is built and the sump fits. Only issue is the shelves are particle board. A friend pointed out that it swells very easily and wouldn’t be forgiving on a rimless tank. Going to get some hardwood cut and use it instead. Will lay down some yoga mats for extra leveling. 3 Quote Link to comment
Pjanssen
I agree 100% on the particle board. Even if you paint it with marine grade paint and epoxy I wouldn't trust that it would be 100%waterproof. Besides, real wood will give it a little upgraded feel. Are you leaving it open 1 Quote Link to comment

Sharbuckle
Redid the floors in the fish room with some waterproof vinyl. Now that’s done I just need to trim and paint the room. Its almost time! I swear to god this tank will be running soon. 3 Quote Link to comment
Sharbuckle
Some photos of the finished floor. It’s a floating rigid vinyl. Chose this because it’s waterproof and rugged. Great for the dogs and aquariums. You can see where Big Mama has been living for a few months..... time to get her out of the trash can and into some new digs. 7 Quote Link to comment
Sharbuckle
Baseboards going in tomorrow. Fixed both fans on my radions. Things are coming up Sharbuckle! Ha Quote Link to comment

Is that a protein skimmer floating in the trash can? 😂 The floor looks great! I can't wait to see this system come together. Quote Link to comment

Next step paint and we’re off! 2 Quote Link to comment

Sharbuckle
So the tank ALMOST passed the leak test. ive got a slow leak coming from the bulkhead of the main drain. i tried tightening the bulkhead but that did g work so tomorrow I’m going to switch the gaskets. the weirdest thing is... it only leaks when the return pump is on. Even though when it’s off there is still water in the overflow. Very confusing. All the rest of the plumbing is great but my old sicce is super noisy. oh and the tunze stream 3 is a beast with the flow, I don’t think I’ll need anything else in here! pics for fun. 2 Quote Link to comment
Sharbuckle
Well it was a pain in the ass but I was able to use a standard bulkhead for the main drain. It’s weird now but it works! No more leaks. Only problem is I installed the gate valve incorrectly so it’s noisy as hell..... it’s in the basement so I’m not overly concerned but I’ll have to fix it eventually. Next step is fixing the insanely noisy return pump plumbing. Going to use some super flexible vinyl tubing. might put salt in tonight! 2 Quote Link to comment
Sharbuckle
It’s officially. The tank is salty! Rock and sand going in tomorrow. 3 Quote Link to comment
Sharbuckle
Okay I barely rinsed my sand and I’m paying for it. its been about 36 hours since sand went in and it’s only now getting clear. There is silt EVERYWHERE..... got a big sump clean up ahead of me. also, the sicce pump I’m currently using is 5 years old and rattling like a snake! I took it offline and I’m just using a maxijet to slowly turn the tank over. the room looks great though! 3 1 Quote Link to comment

Sharbuckle
Added some fully cured live rock I’ve had for 4+ years. It’s in the sump now, will leave it in there a week or so. I’ve also been dosing seachem stability and mixed in a bag of live sand to the dry aragonite to kick start the bacteria. I have a little ten gallon going as well, using stability and live rock I had 0 cycle. Hoping to quickly cycle this tank to get poor big mama out of her trash can. 3 Quote Link to comment

Sharbuckle
All is well. Nothing extreme to report. I want to load this thing with corals but I guess I should get a return pump first! 2 Quote Link to comment
Sharbuckle
Incredible deal on the new Gen apex I just couldn’t pass up. never had salinity and orp monitoring before so it’s really nice to have! 1 Quote Link to comment
Sharbuckle
Found an outstanding deal on a Nyos Torq 2.0. Picked it up, cleaned it, added some Kolar Labs Carbon and GFO, and plugged it in. It’s super quiet and looks fantastic beside its skimmer brother. 2 1 Quote Link to comment
