Ask and thou shall recieve!

It's still pretty empty but....

I've got about 5 OG Bounces sitting in the frag tank.

Good ol corner of euphyllia.

Lots of acans which are going to be used for our local grow-out contest

A CSB which I've cut twice and killed the babies both times. I'm now too scared to cut it.

XY Blueberry Donut, an oddball Tenius with blue polyps. It's getting orange corallites at a friends house under higher PAR (400-600)

The XY Blue Bonnet is one of the bluest teniuses I've seen.

This millepora backup is originally from @HarryPotter. Below it is a sunset millepora peeking into the photo

Pink lemonade never fails to disappoint. I'm so glad I didn't lose this with my crashes.

I've never gotten my Pink Cadillac to turn pink. More like brown-cadillac with blue polyps...

Finally, I've got 8 acros and 1 branching cyphestrea cooking in the QT too.

October Updates: Is anyone out there?

I've had a heck of an October with the reef, especially the frag tank. I added egg-crate to the frag tank and created elevated platforms for better detritus control. Every time I add egg, I get a nasty dino bloom. This time, I decided to add expensive "acrylic egg crate" in case polystyrene (classic egg crate) leeched something that dinos preferentially fed on. Unfortunately, the acrylic egg crate fared no better, and I have a dino bloom on my hands again. Hopefully it's temporary like it has always been in the past...

This is a deceptive angle, that hides the dino nasties.

DSC00790.thumb.jpg.89fcaca590a0926616712fc6fe431883.jpg

It pains me to share this view :(. Look at all of the dinos, especially under the Radion section.

DSC00791.thumb.jpg.e9d58066b6b6fb85bc1787db80e878f6.jpg

Now that we have the nasties out of the way, lets move onto some eye candy:

I've been propagating WWC OG bounces in my frag tank, and have collected quite a few now.

DSC00765.thumb.jpg.d08b192d01b905510951f0d9eb354414.jpg

Some of them have really nice looking bubbles, like this one!

DSC00781.thumb.jpg.8ac9de468732070823639853d35edddf.jpg

Remember those numerous acan frags (1-3 heads) I made back in December? Here's how big one of them is now...

DSC00767.thumb.jpg.87b323988c1cb08caf346cf04bb83f5f.jpg

I got overzealous this summer and fragged a ton of goniopora up. I only have 2 of the UC Space goni frags left, but still have a ton of the ORA Red gonis...

DSC00786.thumb.jpg.fa1decca18ab921a45524fa41621fdab.jpg

Finally, the XY Blue Bonnet Tenius is looking really nice.

I'm here!! and always watching for the eye candies-goodies in this thread.  that dino left vs right image is insane, it's literally the same system, the only issue then is down to light spectrum differences?

Yay! I'm glad you're along for the ride; sometimes feels like no one is home on NR.

Light and flow pattern are the main differences I can identity. Of note, detritus seems to like to pool right underneath the gyres, which suggests to me that free-floating dino strands tend to pool there too...

Haha! I've been lurking. This has been a crazy year with work and I've been away about as much as I've been home. My tank is still hanging in there, mostly thanks to the GHL director - it was was a smart choice but I probably rely on it more than I should.

Anyway I did just recently get the stand in a place where I can think about setting up the new tank! The stand has been the biggest hold up since I've been building it from scratch. I am hoping to get it from the garage into the room it'll live in this weekend. Then I can start wiring and plumbing it up! I should get a new thread going...😅

Anyway sorry to muck up your thread there @xiaoxiy!

Ah I didn't know NR was dead lately! I'll have to pop on more and keep the fire alive 🔥

I completely agree with yah then, more need to see the majesty!

ha good good!

Yeah I got a UNS 90L. I mean - I got it at the beginning of the year, fully intending to set it up then. My plans fell apart quickly after that 😅

I'll get my thread going soon. I have some photos of the stand! Should be good enough for now

Yea! I'm going to use two Nanobox Duos. I'm thinking I'll connect the two with some acrylic and give it kind of an ADA Aquasky look. I almost pulled the trigger on the hybrid that @Matteo had listed recently but I decided it was too much for what I'm doing.  The size of the Duos will probably be better for the 12" wide tank.

Okay, going to make my thread now 🏃‍♂️

I somehow managed to mild-moderately bleach some of the acros in the display, but at least the frag tank still looks good....

Superman Rhodactis - these are some fast growers.

DSC00823.thumb.jpg.9a779289fa8288b59bc93d793be10af1.jpg

Assorted Acros - slowly growing out these frags. Maybe in the next six months, they'll be big enough for me to transfer them to 3" tiles.

DSC00828.thumb.jpg.cc995706c1be8cc2c12deebb52050cdb.jpg

XY Blueberry Donut Tenius - I've been cultivating this piece for almost 2 years now. It's turning into something really special.

DSC00829.thumb.jpg.e2be117ff4a6d22d76bc1d246b57ad30.jpg

Hawkins Echinata - I love the bluish green sheen of the Hawkins. Definitely a must have acro.

DSC00830.thumb.jpg.71c55a5f99a04c510d8b7983c79a8325.jpg

Red Millepora - As this gets bigger, it's losing its greens and yellows and turning into a more-solid red.

DSC00833.thumb.jpg.73ab78dca21e64f18ffbdcfb7fe1e655.jpg

SC Orange Passion - this small frag is starting to color up nicely.

DSC00834.thumb.jpg.f06259f712dbbb0a3425433d5bcdef5c.jpg

Homewrecker - This is starting to get hints of pinks! Can't want until it grows out in 6 months.

DSC00835.thumb.jpg.bd7b561acebcfe7db43ab15452b82f4a.jpg

Screw eggcrate. I ended up tearing it all out due to a never-ending dino bloom. Within days after I tore the eggcrate out, the dinos have receded by 95%. I expect the residual dinos to recede over time too.

Fairly big update:

As you can see below, my tank was getting a bit overgrown. The Red Monti, Aussie gold, and WWC Yellow Tips were growing out of control, and basically steadily taking over the tank. Given the overgrowth, my scape also lots its original image and visual flow. As such, I decided it was time to perform a drastic tear down and aggressive trimming.

IMG_7712.thumb.JPG.92ca05a1a1d2e26f7dd71f9d5eea061e.JPG

I ended up removing the colonies completely, cutting myself a small frag, and giving them away to a friend of mine.

IMG_7730.thumb.JPG.9812ee6c2e3f4af688e16d5951efe11d.JPGIMG_7752.thumb.JPG.4062ebcf03c2c4c5492a418198c54285.JPGIMG_7753.thumb.JPG.a04ff32e717b838b25d322301b5d3b1c.JPG

I also took the opportunity cut a majority of my other acropora, and made numerous trimmings which I gave a lot away too.

IMG_7758.thumb.JPG.e8ec30d4def10aa84702c18c57a205fe.JPGIMG_7759.thumb.JPG.11723332e0b03cd490704e8e59531901.JPGIMG_7760.thumb.JPG.1e2faf1e9c479f4dc2e183db0655efe7.JPGIMG_7761.thumb.JPG.d3d8e2e98aee53424dbda04ada3b93bc.JPG

As originally planned, I took the opportunity to add some new acropora (from the frag tank) to the display. Hopefully once things grow out in a few months, I will have better color contrast and visual flow. Wow, the tank looks empty now. Better turn down alkalinity, calcium and magnesium supplementation so I don't crash the system on accident...

DSC00864.thumb.jpg.84e9e72ff9f5a357c79c7316e5c378ad.jpg

Frag Tank:

Although I made a drastic change to the display, not much has changed in the frag tank. Here's some eye-candy though.

DSC00856.thumb.jpg.6c4438564e57147e7b5baa5e9958c68b.jpg

DSC00850.thumb.jpg.9657c6ee8ac025ececf0cfb7da9c7fbd.jpgDSC00849.thumb.jpg.62941c2bc5b4e03156ad221f19cd9de3.jpgDSC00847.thumb.jpg.a4bb4ebc07d12cb2277abc5a1ae420ff.jpg

QT Tank:

I've got a cool green birdsnest that I'm in the process of QTing; it's going to go where the WWC Yellow Tips was previously in the display. I think that the green will contrast well with the pink millepora that will sit in front of it. I also have some cool zoas (rainbow fusions) in the QT process too.

DSC00857.thumb.jpg.2cb11da3a0752e10663ff9bfb04fd40d.jpg

In an effort to keep out all coral pests, I've even been QTing my invertebrates. Here's a cool Salmacis Bicolor Urchin.

This CSB has been through hell and back too. Two months ago, it was rotting from the mouth, but with lots of praying, it seems to have bounced back!

Love this tank! Frag tank is looking spectacular too. And man with all the coral you are giving away I really wish I was your friend!
