Droopyman
Hello everyone, I just introduced a tuxedo urchin into my tank and it isn't moving I was wondering why because I introduced some crabs and snails at the same time and they are fine but, it isn't seeming to move. It still seems to have its spines so I'm not sure if it is dead. Should I wait a bit and if it doesn't move should I get rid of it because it shipped and that might have caused it to die. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated 1 Quote Link to comment
Ratvan
What time is it because they're nocturnal? They will adjust to your light schedule given time and food. 1 Quote Link to comment
Tired
To check if an urchin is alive, slowly approach it with a finger or other probe, then touch it. If it's alive, its spines and feet will point towards the thing. If not, they won't move. It's probably sleeping, thinking, or eating. 2 Quote Link to comment
Humblefish
They sometimes won’t move for a day or two after acclimating. They also seem to benefit from a prolonged drip acclimation, as both urchins and starfish are sensitive to changing water chemistry. 1 Quote Link to comment

Mine is responsive with the spines, but, it's not extending the tube feet, or moving around, nor seeming like its eating? Help Quote Link to comment

Zer0
Got any pictures of it? Also, you might want to start a new thread in the invertebrate or reef discussion subforums, you’ll likely get more visibility and more help than from posting in this 2 year old thread. Quote Link to comment
HawthorneAl
Thanks, I'll try to figure out how to post a new thread also. Here's a pic Quote Link to comment
Tired
Oo, that doesn't look good, it's missing most of its spines. That's probably a dead urchin, and I'd guess likely a starved one, based on how white that rock is.
