Drew11
I'm deciding between a Red Sea Reefer 170, 250, or a used IM SR-60 I have in storage. I prefer the idea of a sump. However, I'm on the 2nd level of an apartment building. Would the Reefer 250 or Sr-60 be safe? I know the total weight of the system adds up, I'd rather be safe than sorry... anyone with experience here? Thanks! Quote Link to comment
Tired
You may want to check what size of tank you're allowed to have. You'll also want to know where the floor joists are, so you can put it across several. That said, I had a 65gal tank in my second story bedroom for years, with no problems, in a house that was built slightly before this town got residential electricity. 1 Quote Link to comment

I’ve had a similar problem in the past. The way I saw it was, if a section of the room can handle 3 200+ pound grown men sitting on my sofa, then I can definitely put something that is weighing roughly 700 pounds. But like Tired mentioned, do check your contract on any restrictions, don’t want to be getting the boot for breaking the agreement. Quote Link to comment

Dead, static weight is very different from measuring in frats-per-foot. 2 Quote Link to comment
Poodges
I'm partial to the SR60. If you already have it and it's in good shape, spend the money on livestock or other equipment. Regarding the weight, what stand and type of surface would it go on? Tile, carpet etc...? Quote Link to comment
Clown79
Weight of the tank will all depend on the building structure. Most apartment building are built with concrete & rebar, which should have no issue holding the weight of a tank. Quote Link to comment
Drew11
It would be going on carpet in the living room. Leasing office said 40-60g would be fine to have. I'd be removing what's in my 40 breeder currently at another location. So livestock and most equipment already available to me. Quote Link to comment

If you think you can peel back the carpet just a little bit where you want to place the tank, you can see what’s under. If it’s wood, check the nailing pattern and that will tell you where the floor joists are. If it’s concrete, well then it doesn’t really matter. The display of the sr60 is pretty much a 40 breeder so it seems like a natural fit to me. But like I said, I’m biased. Quote Link to comment
