A.m.P
Reef Crystal mixes to 13+, if it was brought up slowly or the animals are accustomed to it you're fine. Alk depletes over time and swings are what will harm corals. 8-14, but try to stay around or on one number, pick it and stick to it. Staying close to the alk of your newly-mixed saltwater can help to avoid swings, eventually dose if you need to inbetween waterchanges. Quote Link to comment

A.m.P
Long as you're using reef crystals, I'd keep it around 13 yeah. 1 Quote Link to comment
Clown79
Lol. I used RC for a year. Mine never got higher than 9. Thry have no batch controls so kinda hard to say exactly what each bag will mix to. Depending on the corals you keep and nutrient levels, high alk can be an issue or may not. I had issue when I had high alk when using RSCP which did mix at 12. It all depends on the system, each one is different. Any fluctuation is a major issue with alk. So if it goes from 12.5 to 10 or 8 to 6 for example will eventually have an effect on corals. 1 Quote Link to comment
