at what age do cardinals start breeding?

I'm wondering if my male is holding eggs.  He seems a bit young (just got them in Aug and they were TINY).  It took him a bit to come out when I fed them today, I actually thought he was dead because I couldn't find him. When he did come out, he acted fine, but didn't really eat, so I thought maybe he was holding eggs.  But, like I said, he seems too young, but I don't know at what age they start.

nope, don't think he's holding.  Not sure why he hid so long and then didn't really eat, but he seems fine now.
