I think the best part about larger LPS corals is feeding them and watching the feeding response. My scoly enjoying his mysis meal tonight.

Another mini upgrade to my RODI cart today was adding a tap to pull drinking water out after the RO and before the DI stage. After adding this in I realized it’s probably also best to install a check valve right before the DI stages

And finally a trip to the LFS today ended in bringing home more than the test reagents I was planning on buying... even if this does happen on most trips to the LFS. Found this cool yellow tipped clove polyp frag.

A lot has changed in the tank this month. I finally got sick of the variety of non-controllable powerheads I was using and upgraded to a pair of Nero 5’s! I have really enjoyed them so far. They are silent and very powerful (running below 35% nearly all the time).

I was having trouble with the birdsnest colony. It has grown to a certain size and then died back a couple times now and I’m hoping that a little stronger, more random flow will help grow a healthier colony.

I have added some new corals and moved a few corals around as well. I’m pretty excited to have added an octospawn and what I think is some kind of “frammer” (frogspawn/hammer hybrid) to the tank.

Here are a couple new FTS. One under typical lighting and one under heavy blues taken with an orange filter.

And a coral close up for fun as well.

So my white rock flower nem which has been happily stationary for months decided to go on a walkabout last night 😠. It really pissed off an acan and my fox coral in the process and they aren't looking too good today.

It has chosen to stop in a fairly reasonable spot but if it continues on its adventure tonight I might have to find this guy a new home.

The rock flower has picked a spot at the base of some rock at the back of the tank. Hopefully it is happy and will stay there so I can stop rearranging coral for a while🤞. I’m battling with a few patches of hair algae and some cyano here and there. Debating about doing a round of chemiclean as that always takes care of the cyano quickly.

I also found a way to add some more coral real estate to the tank. I really like these magnetic racks by Reef Raxs. I added a couple more but haven’t quite decided what to do with them yet. I want something for a nice pop of color on the upper left one. Maybe some kind of encruster.

Can't even tell, looks nice

You do have a urine cup infestation starting up, though

Haha I sure do. My ironman shroom is in timeout there with some rock rubble since he refused to stay on the frag plug. Hopefully I can get it out soon cause its not the best look.

I have been blowing little cyano patches off rocks every few days but it was starting to spread and I wasn’t able to keep up with it well. The zoa garden really doesn’t get along well with the cyano. So tonight I started a Chemiclean treatment. Fingers crossed it takes out the cyano and nothing else... adding magic powders to the tank always makes me nervous even though I’ve used it before.

The Chemiclean did its job, cyano is now gone! I went to the LFS over the weekend to pick up a little emerald crab in the hopes that it’ll be my assistant in fighting the patches of hair algae. I came away with more than an emerald carb... 🙂

Took a couple quick tank photos today including the spoils of the Black Friday sale at my LFS. Shoutout to Reefco (in NJ) for having some awesome deals!

My clownfish have started spawning! It’s moments like these that make all the water changes feel worth it haha 😄.

I love the dimensions of the 40 B

I so wish some manufacturer would make it a low iron rimless

Totally agree, it has so much aquascaping potential. Ive seen some examples of people taking the trim off of a 40B to make it more of a “rimless” tank but I’m not sure I would try it myself.

I was just checking out the tank before the lights come on and discovered that my lobo is apparently very unhappy about being neighbors with this favia. I had no idea a lobo could even do this, looks like something straight out of spider-man! These two are gonna have to be separated.

Wow great catch with those photo's. I wonder if the Lobo will retract when the lights come on.

The lobo did retract when lights came on and I blew all the mesenterial filaments off the favia. According to this article this is a thing that some lobos do. I just had never seen or heard of it before. Sadly the favia looks to be in pretty rough shape. Well see if its able to recover.

They’re calling for some serious snow this week so I put together a little emergency nor’easter kit. Hopefully I wont have to use it but I think I have the essentials covered, at least for a little while. Apartment reefing makes it difficult to have a generator so this is definitely a less elegant solution.

If anyone has other suggestions for items I should have in my kit I’d love to hear them.

Hope you survive your storm unscathed, we are supposed to be getting more snow today than in the last 6 years from this storm so I am sort of in the same boat but we almost never lose power here so I guess I am lucky in that regard.

Best of luck to you as well! Hopefully power will stay on and it will be smooth sailing.

Please report back after the storm with what worked and what didn't work with your emergency kit.  I'm in the south and we don't handle our annual 2 day sleet festival very well. I need to build a kit myself.

I’m a little late on this... but the storm passed without incident. We got lots of snow but didn’t ever lose power. Better to be safe than sorry though. Sadly the tank hasn’t been running super smoothly lately. Seemingly out of nowhere my torch coral started losing heads and sadly after a couple weeks it is gone 😔. I’m also fighting with some algae in the tank. Time to get in and do some manual removal. I think the clean up crew needs a boost as well.
