Tired
Blue lights give me a headache, so I'm going to be running my tank with mostly white lighting, just a tinge of blue. Can anyone suggest me some zoas and palys that look nice under whiter light? I prefer smaller polyps, and I like patterns and darker colors. Not a fan of lots of yellow or orange unless it's contrasted against a dark color, or all on its own. I LOVE black and deep, deep blues, and small light patterns on darker colors. I'd prefer ones that aren't, ya know, $50 a polyp at the moment. No Grandis, I'd rather not deal with that volume of highly toxic meat in one colony, but I really like things with Grandis-like patterns. Some I'm eyeing: Coronas Nirvana (if I can get em on sale) Fire and Ice Peaches and Cream Radioactive Dragon Eyes Armageddon Mohawk Ultra Sunny D Solstice Halle Berry Firestorm Gold Maul Hornets (of most darker varieties) And who are some sellers who also photograph their zoas under white or near-white light, so I can tell what they look like? Or zoa sellers in Austin? Aquatek and Aquadome have zoas at most times, but don't always have the most exciting ones, and I'm looking around for patterns. Quote Link to comment
Tamberav
I like nice magician palys or Blue agave palys. Not all strains are equal. Blue tubbs zoas are small heads and would give you the nice blue I think. Quote Link to comment
billygoat
If you don't particularly care about getting a specific morph, check out KPaquatics. They have a variety of no-name wild-collected zoanthids with blue and green patterns, and they are all very cheap. Here is an example (under not-that-blue-but-sure-still-pretty-blue-I-guess lights): 1 Quote Link to comment
Tired
Ooh, yes, those are really nice. I don't care about the names at all, except in terms of telling what something is. Easier to call something by a name than to try and describe it. I've been eyeing KPA anyway, partly for that reason. Looks like their zoas are out of stock now. Maybe in spring. And that's about the light I want to go for! White at first glance, just enough blue for a little pop. I like the coraline, too, especially that deep red patch. Blue tubbs are cool, and, ugh, blue agave and magician are stunning. Are there any black zoas, or near-black? I haven't seen any, but I'm loving the mental image of a pure black zoa mixed in with some other things. Like, black sun coral level of blackness, that "hole in space" darkness. Quote Link to comment
