Reefjunkye
Hi Reefers, My name is Sean, first of all, I want to apologize for my bad English because is not my first language. Due to cost of living and space limitation. I have been in the saltwater hobby for 16 years. I have been down sizing from 180g to 120g to a 29 BioCube and now to a nuvo 14 peninsula. I had a hard time to decide on getting the nuvo 10 or the nuvo 14. Tank: Innovative Marine Nuvo 14 peninsula Stand: custom made “floating concept wanna-be” Light: Ai Prime HD, $2 cheap led for chaeto in chamber 2 Skimmer: Mame nano skimmer ATO: Duetto ATO Heater: Aqueon heater Rock: 10kg of STAX rocks Return pump: Tunze 1073.008 from my BioCube Wavemaker: Jaebao SOW-4 Misc : intank media rack from nuvo 8 (had to modified to fit into the peninsula) Livestock: Bare bottom for the first time (not liking so far) -saving up to buy a long fin black ice to pair up with my ultra premium black ice that I have in my BioCube -mostly frags of Colourful zoas and rfla -little bit lps 3 Quote Link to comment
Reefjunkye
I am made the stand on L-brackets (rated for 100kg) I didn’t want to spend $300 cnd for an OEM stand 2 1 Quote Link to comment
Reefjunkye
I didn’t like the white brackets so I decided to spray painted black 2 Quote Link to comment
Reefjunkye
Modifying Intank Media rack: due to the nuvo new design the previous gen of the rack it won’t be able to use it on the new Nuvo. It’s taller so the water won’t go through. So this is what I did. -measure the height of the water intake. -cut an opening with dremmel tool -file the edges and valah!!! 3 Quote Link to comment
Reefjunkye
Okay guys so I couldn’t wait to get the tank wet and get it to cycle!! Rock work is very unnatural lol I know I know.. but I like symmetry... so I used the shrimp cycling method; so I had a clam and a shrimp and I dump both inside the media rack, tank is very cloudy and starter to smells (I guess is normal)... I know I know... I can buy the micro bacteria from brightwell and dadiridah... but I want to go to the cheapest way otherwise I won’t be able to save up for my longfin blackice.. I kinda don’t want to buy the test kit atm lol I would just remove the nasty shrimp/clam in a week or so.. fingers crossed 3 Quote Link to comment
Reefjunkye
Nothing is gonna happen by starring at the cycling tank so I decided to add a led on top of the second chamber, use it for chaeto ( turn on reversely time with my main display ) it’s a cheap $2 Mod. Note: the led light did came with 2 lights. I cut one out because one is enough and I used silicon on the cut end to prevent electrical problem. I used Velcro and Velcro it on the Ai prime mount like so: 3 Quote Link to comment
Ratvan
Looks great. Love the floating tank idea. I keep looking at a windowsill and reinforcement boards... I like the modifications as well Quote Link to comment

Christopher Marks
This is a really neat nano reef build @sean86114, hanging off the wall with those brackets is a cool look! 😮 Is your plan to move livestock from your 29 gallon tank, or are you starting a second system? 1 Quote Link to comment
Reefjunkye
Hi Chris, thanks, -yeah hopefully it will stay clean( I still have to think of a place for my water top off reservoir) cable management will be challenging as well.. the condo is a big mess at the moment otherwise i would take picture of the tank floating ( only from the front view) sideview you can see the metal brackets. - ONLY the livestock (premium black ice, a dendro and some mushrooms) , the tank crashed after moving to this new apartment that I just bought. I dont know why I got dino all over the tank so I aint getting anything rock nor sand from the biocube 1 Quote Link to comment
Reefkid88
I love these tanks and seeing more being set up makes me happy. I will say the floating idea scares the SOUL out of me lol but that is just me. I like the mods and ideas though, this should be GREAT. Will be following along. Also the use of the Stax rocks just make me happy since I'm using it too !!! 1 Quote Link to comment

I will sue them if something happens lol.. what size is the tank from the photo? the stax looks lot bigger than mine unless thats like a fluval evo 5 lol 1 Quote Link to comment
Reefkid88
I have only seen a few floating tanks and the bracing was 5x more than yours and it still scared me lol. One of which was like a 40g I think. Well your eyes aren't playing tricks on you,its a 2g 12"x6"x6" tank with a custom false wall and filter area lol I'm a pico guy. 1 Quote Link to comment
Reefjunkye
I am debating if I should add sand or not... 1 Quote Link to comment

I think it really depends on what you plan to stock the tank with as well as personal preference, you can always remove the sand with water changes if you decide against it. Quote Link to comment
Reefjunkye
Thanks for the comment @Ratvan I think I will go for BB for now. I know is not gonna look good until coralines and corals grows on it. today marks the 4th day of cycling with a piece of raw shrimp. Water seems to clear up a bit from the murkiness. Shrimp looks like it shrunk 1/3 of its size. I didn’t have to go go buy test kit yet. But I guess I can wait till cyano to grow on the STAX rock? 3 Quote Link to comment
Reefjunkye
one of the local reefer is giving out chaeto, should I get some. would it speed up the cycle progress or low it down? Quote Link to comment

Again personal choice, I have seen people add it day 0 and others wait until Ammonia and Nitrates are high. Just have to balance the pros and cons Risks: Cheato dies, possibly the dead cheato slightly prolongs the cycle Benefits: Softer faster cycle, life on rocks better preserved, add cool stuff to your tank sooner, potential for rapid cheato growth to share/trade, tank smells less during cycle Quote Link to comment
Reefjunkye
Finally got some times to make a trip to the lfs and got the test kit.. sad result -ammonia 1.5 -nitrite 0 -nitrate Between 0-2 this is day 5 with a raw shrimp/clam decomposing in my first chamber. Nitrite and nitrate is near zero this means that cycle haven’t even started correct? Should I get a bottle of https://www.reefsupplies.ca/online-store/Brightwell-Aquatics-Microbacter7-500ml.html to speed up the cycle? 1 Quote Link to comment
Reefjunkye
Aight, got a little bored so decided to take the prime HD And my mini mame skimmer from my biocube into the peninsula. Running into some problems with the skimmer, water level on chamber 2 or 3 is very low picture #3 (based on gravity the gunk won’t go up into the collection cup so I had to put it on the display for now pic #4, is cool to watch it for a while but I know I won’t like it permanently in my display. Reefkid88
That is so weird your water level is so love in that chamber, have you messed with the settings on the return pump to try and get it leveled back out ? So you have a prime on your biocube as well too ? Quote Link to comment

Is kinda stupid to me. well I am shutting down the biocube once my nitrogen cycle is done on my pensula. I will be using the biocube ia prime Quote Link to comment
Thetravelguy
Looks awesome! The floating idea scares me to death but it looks legit! If I could keep my tank up at eye level I’d love that! looks like you’ve got a killer view from your apt as well!! Quote Link to comment

Is raining 24/7 right now. I hate it so much!!! Quote Link to comment
