Tanner59
I left Thursday night and just got back today (Monday) and there is a crab leg sitting at the bottom of my tank but both crabs are still alive and moving around, any info on why one of them lost it or how? Quote Link to comment
j.falk
It could be part of a molt...or if one of them is missing a leg, it will grow back when they molt again. 2 Quote Link to comment
Tired
Could be they got in a fight, could be they snagged it somewhere and tore it off, could be something was wrong with it (injury, infection) and they pulled it off. Some arthropods will remove a leg that's better off no longer attached, so they can regrow it in their next molt. It's relatively likely to be just an exoskeleton from a molt, though. See if you can count how many legs the crabs have. Doesn't matter much either way, there's nothing you're supposed to do for a crab missing a leg, other than keep the water clean like usual.
