Not sure what makes them turn.........I have had a female blue star for almost 2 years now and has grown from about 1 1/2 to 3" plus and has not turned.........tried to get another one seeing if I could make one turn but it buried itself in the sand and have not seen it since.........the Tamarin is also about 3" in length.

Hmm. Oddly enough - I can relate to this. I picked up a leopard wrasse which is currently 3.5" and stuck in sub-terminal phase. The spots on its body have become squiggly and its face is greenish, but it still retains most of the female-coloring. Like it hasn't decided if it wants to transition into a male fully or not. The other leopard wrasses at the store were the same. 😕

I didn’t realize they change. Why would they if there’s more wrasses in the tank?

I'm not sure myself. But I know some of them are hermaphroditic (I *think) so they switch over from female to male after a while, although this doesn't necessarily happen.

All my wrasse are females. Females tend to adapt and ship better than males and are more common so they are easier to find.

Wrasse can change sex....born female and transition to male...but they don't 'pair'. They live in harems in the wild.

With some wrasse it seems you end up with all males no matter what....I think this is more common in certain fairy and flasher types...then they fight and you have one left. Now some others seem reluctant to transition at all or at least slower at it like leopards or the china wrasse.

Some new photos....I need to adjust the flow on the back corner...my hammer won't fully open as it's getting beat a bit. Mixed reef problems.

I lost my orange filter....😑 Cats probably ran off with it....they are little thieves.

My Kuiter's Leopard Wrasse is a little photo bomber!

Love the potters angel! I had one, my favourite fish, but she was a casualty of a faulty heater. Man, seeing yours makes me want to get another, but they are hard to come by...

That Potter's angel is definitely very, very beautiful! The color combination on the fish is amazing.

Tank looks great so far, Tam. Can't wait to see what else you add to it. 🙂

My $70 snails arrived today 🙂

Since it was snowing ipsf arranged for FedEx to hold my package and informed me two days ahead.

They were packed wonderful in a large styrofoam box with heat packs and double bagged.

I only ordered 12 snails...I received:

14 snails all alive and wiggling... immediately eating algae out of the bag.

Two macro algae samples.

1 toadstool leather frag (in a separate bag marked as a freebie).

1 dry/decorative clamshell

Very happy with the money spent and the care they took to make sure everything arrived safely even in the cold weather and its always great to discover free stuff.

Shipping took two days simply because it's coming from Hawaii.

I also have a ton of stomella snails breeding in my fuge which is awesome! And the China Wrasse went into the DT today.

Hard to get a clear shot of this little blurry torpedo... Got a nice shot of the Timor with her though.

They’re all so pretty eating together!

I need to try that food again. I bought some a few years ago and for some reason never used it.

Definitely try it! My fish were confused at first but eventually one picks at it (like a greedy fat clown?) And little peices fly off and the fish start out eating that and eventually figure out they should eat it right off the glass.

I hydrate it with selcon so it's a great way to get the fish vitimines and healthy fats.

I wonder if that would be better than broadcast feeding frozen and other assorted stuff once a day, and drop nutrients 🤔

It does have the side effect of making your fish look like fat balloons after lol

The coral loves it too. You can see the cabbage leather and encrusting corals puffing up their polyps trying to grab any micro pieces.

Not sure...maybe less waste if used conservatively so the fish eat it all?

My rock looks almost sterile from the front but the shaded areas have so much sponge.
