For the first 5 years or so...

 

I tested everything all the time.  

 

And I logged everything in a DIY change tracker I built on a TikiWiki platform that I could access and update from anywhere in the world.

 

I learned a lot and having that log was VERY useful.

 

Then for the next five years or so...

 

I slowed waaaaay down in testing.  Hard to imagine, I know.

 

I also coincidentally took the TikiWiki down, so wasn't logging anything for a good while.

 

Now...

 

I use one blank 4x6 notecard...

...that I store in my "test kit toolbox" along with a really nice pencil like this:

And these days I test something like monthly or as-needed.

 

Here is the range of items I have always logged:

  • Date
  • Specific Gravity
  • Alkalinity
  • Calcium
  • Magnesium
  • Nitrates
  • Phosphates
  • Notes

I try to test everything every time I test or else my kits end up expiring.

 

But I often end up just testing the one or two things I need to know.
