There was an accident outside work and the police shut the road so I still can't go anywhere. It looks like I might be able to leave soon.

However water is clear and fish have been re added.

Not the clearest picture of the rockwork but it'll do. Got some nice gaps and caves and very porous rocks for the fish to swim through.

I like the less rock look.  When I first started a reef  tank, I made awesome rock scapes (I really did!). Then realized, unlike freshwater .... the coral becomes the scape.  Try to picture what the grown out coral will look like.  The rock just holds it up, lol.
- and is obviously your tanks main filter.

I’ve done this a few times ..... never had any real issue..... except for Hotdog.  Hotdog was my Tail Spot Blenny who decided to take shelter in my MP10 while I moved everything around.  The water got so cloudy that I couldn’t see anything.  When I flipped the power back on, Hotdog was no longer in one piece.  RIP Hotdog.

So, check all your equipment before powering back on.

If you want to remove the current sand, I’ve scooped it out while running a siphon on a hose to suck up the cloud of nasties.  Or, run a large diameter hose to suck up the sand while doing a water change.  I also have a basic hang on the back filter with floss and carbon that I run as well.

Make sure your new rocks rest on the aquarium bottom after scooping sand out of the way.

As far as the wrasses go, I know some people put various Tupperware containers full of the appropriate sand in the aquarium if they run a bare bottom or like what you’re doing with the larger diameter crushed coral surrounding it.  The fish seem to figure it out.

Just think it all out ahead of time, have everything staged and go through it step by step.  Coral and fish are pretty hardy ...... usually.

LOL, late as usual!

Ah sneaky extra page gotcha. Good advice thanks but more substrate going in.

I'm rethinking corals at the moment to be honest.

Thanks. Hopefully I can salvage the macro algae that I abandoned in there, it all kind of collected in the main arch/overhang area so I can scoop it up tomorrow. I was racing against the lighting and finally able to get out once the road opened up and traffic had eased.

Much happier with the flow around the sandbed, as well as the sandbed size. I saw some food pellets blowing around after I gave it a stir and got it to a level I was happy with. Couple of Nassarius popped out to give chase. Forgot I had those. The Gobies cleaned most of the food up

The main fish all seem to congregate around there as well which is nice to see them together. Maybe one more?

Wow I just found this journal. That is a beautiful tank, love the dimensions!! Gonna be awesome watching this one evolve.

Thanks. The main rocks are self anchored in place (if I did it right) on eggcrate supports and then covered up with sand. Still have some non structural bits that can be removed and placed elsewhere and to play around with unless it shifts overnight

You can add new substrate, you have to put it under the old substrate and you won't have an issue.

Substrate refers to crushed coral in this instance.

That looks real nice. I like the barnacle placed in the rock structure much better than set off to the side.

Thanks. All the fish (except the yellow) hang out in them from time to time. Mostly my Tailspot and the little Gobies but the clown does like them too. Leopard seems to hunt in them which is cool

Small amount of CC added today via soda bottle to minimise mess. Probably add the same each day till I am happyIMG_20200131_153111.thumb.jpg.0c77e5c1408bab83a31fed88bd1bddec.jpg

Red Macro in floating breeder will be good for the weekend in there, need to locate the Snail grave yard and drop the macros back in monday

I'm on board with this re-scape and general reboot! Tank looks great with the current rock structure. Soft corals and macroalgae could be a great route to go if you are tired of dealing with stony corals and all their drama. I've been on softies for more than a year now and still have zero desire to delve into SPS or even LPS corals. 🤷‍♂️

Thanks, It does indeed look so much better, will go LPS heavy again maybe give SPS another go when the office has settled down

Decided no corals for the time being at all. I have a series of works being undertaken on my office in the coming months,

  • Air Conditioning rip out and replace
  • Radiators Rip out and replace
  • Walls Down
  • Walls Up
  • Paint

A bit too much disruption for me, fish I feel i can cope with through this phase of works, corals not so much

Currently on the lookout for a tiny clown and a female filefish

Bored at work again, so photoshoot with the fishies

With the exception of the Red Headed Gobies (who I don't count as fish, too small) all my Fish in a single shot (Tailspot in the Barnacles)

I do enjoy seeing him swim past, then reverse into gaps. Pele tries to photo bomb everything

What is that fish in last pic? 😮

"Blue Star" Leopard Wrasse. I should have got a Tanaka Possum Wrasse but got sent her instead 😍

She was difficult to get eating initially but now eats from the water column and hunts pods on the rocks

Morning all,

Either Majano, or Pele Snack (Aiptasia)

IMG_20200204_085354_resized_20200204_085448166.thumb.jpg.7de95bd250325249a0ad026436273018.jpgIMG_20200203_130445_resized_20200204_085448424.thumb.jpg.1416dc9972ddb394b5f47feb0ae1fa74.jpg

Majano..... some are actually pretty and slow to spread.  Some are the opposite, lol.

So have been on the look out for Macroalgae and managed to snag this from a Fellow Reefer, I know Caulerpa Prolifera but still decent price for the amount £5

Arriving tomorrow, before it was all eaten Pele (filefish) seemed to really enjoy hiding in the Ulva algae, his pattern would change so that he was more disguised. So hopefully I can have this in one of the back corners so he has somewhere to hang out that isn't so exposed.

Looking good. I've often contemplated a FOWLER. So many interesting fish that you don't have to worry if they eat corals or not. But I have a hard time getting rid of things, so unless everything dies, I'll be keeping (and likely adding to) my corals.

Just curious, why don't you have a tank at home?
