Tanner59
I have 3 small pieces of live rock here and am wondering what the best way would be for me to bring it back to life, any answers would be great Quote Link to comment
seabass
When you say dead live rock, what do you mean? Has it been dried out, or has it been in saltwater the whole time. Quote Link to comment
Tanner59
My uncle has it in his tank for a few years then took it out and has been sitting for a few years, just looking for a safe way to bring it back to life Quote Link to comment
seabass
I would cure it in a separate tank or container. The dead organics on the rock will break down and create ammonia (which will start a cycle). If the rock doesn't generate ammonia, then you can follow this guide: http://www.drtimsaquatics.com/resources/fishless-cycling After the cycle is established, you can seed it with life from live sand taken from a healthy mature aquarium, live rock, macroalgae, etc. Quote Link to comment
Tanner59
I’m a fairy new tanker, so I would just throw a power head and some salt in a bucket with my live rock and just let it cure? Quote Link to comment
seabass
Pretty much. Mix the saltwater to 1.025 and use a powerhead for circulation/aeration. Then monitor the ammonia levels. Quote Link to comment
