light question for a 38long and a 20long

I have two tanks I want to start as salt water tanks

Lighting seems to be a very expensive issue at this point two purchase for both tanks

I notice I could afford two 24 inch strips=24" x 9" x 4" 2 x 55w

the tanks are the following size

36*12= a 38 long

30*12= a 20 long

Would this be ok or do I need to get a 36 long strip and a 30 long strip at this point would it be bad to by the 24" strips since I could get two of those for a total of 200.00
