Armstrod
Hoping someone can point me in right direction on this fellow as he's been dementing me. After months of playing hide and seek he finally decided to stay put long enough to get some quick shots. Sorry for blurry crappyness, naturally it picked the only location I couldn't clean without scaring it off. Red with white banding, long slender claws it tends to wave around and pick at things in the rock with. Hides, a lot. Bright red/orange eyes. Top half of body is red, bottom is white which tends to make it look like a Henson puppet with their massive jaws. And it almost seemed to be filter feeding when I added some coral food to the tank, waving two little limbs that seemed kind of fan like. Unless it's been in there a lot longer than I thought it most likely came in on some rock from north west of Australia. 1 2 1 Quote Link to comment

That's impressive! Think you've picked it. Had never heard of them but looking them up online, he rode in with a gorgonian, seems to filter feed, has unusual number of legs and there are some similar looking example out there. Hopefully that means he's reef safe as well. Had him pose for a better picture, was worried that he might be getting to the size when crabs suddenly emerge from rocks and go on a rampage, but looks like I'm in luck. 3 Quote Link to comment

Armstrod
Funilly enough my main source of corals is a farmer who wholesales to London but also allows folks to buy retail from him locally. It's a fair chance we may both be looking at stock from the same source. Because I'm running a Pico I'm always looking for the little odds and ends corals. Actually picked up the gorgonian the squat lobster came in on for $5 because it had been damaged in transit. Speaking of the $5 pieces, just this weekend I picked up a goniopora that is an amazing shade of lilac with a yellow mouth. It's funny, but it actually stands out because the colouring is so subtle compared to anything else. They're a tricky one to keep although they're extending more and more by the day, and apparently do like a dirtier unskimmed aquarium like my Pico, so I'm hoping for the best. A little field of daisies would be great look to pull off, perhaps with some strategically placed algae "grass", if I can find something that'll not grow too aggressively. 3 Quote Link to comment
